[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EC05 w/Optional EXT4

Try booting into CWM and wipe cache and dalvik cache, 3x and then reboot.

Did all thr wiping steps again, and it worked. Ironically, i did a mybackuppro restore, which had launcherpro on it. I forgot to uncheck restoring for that app. So when I did a 3-button soft reset, i got stuck where I was this morning.

Several things I noticed:

1. The tesxting auto-correct is not part of syndicate frozen 1.1 like I was hoping.
2. The virtual android keyboard is not in there at all actually.
3. I don't know where I would adjust things like overclocking, undervolting, etc.
4. The syndicate rom feels like launcherpro with a background and a number for battery life. I guess my expectations for ROMs is misguided (I really didn't know what to expect, other than maybe pure awesomeness)

Is there a rom that fixes the texting auto-correct that is so fantastic in DI18?

Soft reset on a no journaling enabled ROM will cause data corruption.

I think this was changed in the EC05 release, not ROM related.

Look on Syndicate's thread at XDA, I think its the 2nd post there is a link there or at the Twilight Zone Kernel thread pointing you to where you can download " SetCPU" for free which they recommend for managing your kernel. Also you can use " OverClock Widget " from the Market.

Custom ROMs are unique in their own way. If you running just Syndicate ROM with just a few changes then no your not going to see much of a change visually over stock. You need to flash a custom theme which there are many of to achieve a fresh, awesome look that you will NEVER get running stock OS. Performance standpoint stock Syndicate is considered to be top shelf material, it runs great and has all the latest and greatest mods and performance enhancing improvements available to make your device run at its best.

I'm not sure if any ROM offers this but there maybe a custom keyboard that you can flash to achieve this.

So I'm pretty sure it is ROM related. The reason I say is with SRF (unlike I first thought), it does auto-correct quite nicely. I didn't notice it until I switched to ACE ROM, which doesn't even post suggestions under the dialog box you're typing in.

I'm going to try and go back to SRF, and stay away from 3-button resets. Hopefully, the phone doesn't lock up on me. If it does, what is the solution?

im new to this and the epic i had a pre before and there was a program i could just download plug my phone in and click root is there anything like that for this? I just mainly need this so I can use the tether program?

Is There One Click Root? New To Phone & Need Tether Help!

I recently traded in my pre for the epic and with the pre it was a program I could download that was literally a one click root and unroot. A guy at my old job rooted my phone before so I could use the tethering program but now my phone wants to install the 2.2 and I keep denying it because I know it will unroot my phone. Is there an easy way to root or use my tether when I finally update my phone? When I looked at the root section it seemed kinda hard and I wouldn't want to mess my phone up. I'm also using a mac laptop. Hope someone can help me :)

If your looking for just basic root to use wireless tethering like you mentioned then just do the first procedure in this thread.

Its pretty simple, download the OneClickRoot file and install the required drivers in your computer and if all goes well it takes a few minutes to do the root process.

There used to be a few temporary root programs sort of along the lines like you mentioned but your root would expire once you restarted your device.

As far as rooting on a MAC, I'm a PC user so I can't help much there and most of the rooting techniques are PC based.

One suggestion if possible you use Bootcamp on your MAC to run Windows and then you can do the rooting process.

Otherwise if you have access to a friends PC to use for 15 minutes you can go that route.

i can get access to a pc if its an issue but is it going to be hard lol scared of messn up my phone seemed like several steps and it was sayin if u dont want this n that skip this step but i dont kno what sum of that stuff is :-/

For the basic root your asking for to use wireless tethering its pretty straight forward.

You stay running the same stock ROM on your phone, nothing changes there...

Follow the first procedure, its really a whole 4 steps and done... Since you aren't looking to run and custom ROM then just ignore the Procedure #2 and anything concerning EXT4 conversion.

I would recommend grabbing a PC to do it as things will be much easier. I know it can be done on a MAC but its not talked about much because many people just grab someones PC to do the root and from there you can manage and maintain the rest from your MAC. As far as messing anything up, there really isn't anything to worry about with just applying root. Either the process works or it fails which you will know and you just have to rerun the program again.. I have NEVER heard of anyone bricking a phone or doing any damage from just applying root.

Here is a helpful video on the process...

does anyone have any tips for how to do this on linux? i've tried two different PCs and my linux laptop is the only one to not tell me "Phone is not connected..." but when it starts adb it tells me to restart it and i can't figure out how.

i'm fairly new at the whole linux thing, but i'm trying to learn. i'm using the terminal to run the "run.sh" if that helps or anything

"Upgrading"

I accidently rooted my Samsung Epic 4G from Froyo 2.2.1 EC05 to ClckworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0. How can I change the above to ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.6 and convert the RFS filesystem to EXT4?

Thanks in advance.

ps: I'm a newbie with Android phones...the more detail, if possible, the better.

Just run the OneClickRoot for EXT4 (procedure #2) post #2 in this thread.

Updating to EXT4

Thanks for the info. I did have to turn off Antivirus and unmount my SD card to get the one-click to work. I mention this in case anyone else has this problem

Root Help.

Can someone help..It seems i followed all the necessary steps but still cant root.

"If the command prompt asks you to restart adb, you need to go into Windows Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del on your keyboard) and end adb in the process tab, then go into the folder from Step 2 and double-click on the "adb" file to restart adb."

I did that and then ran adb.exe but it opened up for a half a second and closed.
