Hi, I need to install CWM and restore some backups. But I can't root the phone because there's no adb. Maybe the socket is bad or some issue with this phone, usb functions had stopped after a year of purchase and comes on occasionally like once a year. I've tried gingerbreak 1.10 & 1.20, it's still trying after 2 hours. I don't think it needs that long. Is there another way to root this phone?

I've tried running psneuter directly from sdcard, but don't have the permission to run it or chmod it.
/me pulling out hair.

TIA.

if you're lucky enough to have ZV4 firmware on it you can maybe use rageagainstthecage in terminal (maybe part of the superoneclick or z4root packages, old stale searches to find a live link) for temp root in factory recovery, to copy flash_image from sdcard to /sbin and use it to flash a recovery.
keep me posted. ZV5 and up firmware version and you might be SOL, but I've not researched different rooting methods much.

Towelroot is a kernel exploit used on newer phones it's possible it could work on the OV as well. If it doesn't work it won't hurt anything. But I still don't understand why gingerbreak didn't work. It should be your answer. Is usb debugging enabled?

Thanks, I'll try and look for those you mentioned. I've bricked my phone before, had to do alot of different things to unbrink it. Fixed it by flash with update.zip from VM. So its zv9...

Specs:
model num: vm670
android ver: 2.2.2
baseband ver: vm670zv9_60401001
kernel ver: 2.6.32.9lge--android-build#4
build number: vm670zv9
hw version: 1.2

usb debugging is alway enabled for me.
maybe because my rom is different?

Just tried TR, it crashed on me when I click "make it rain". Is there a specific mod string?

"Sorry! The application towelroot (process com.geohot.towelroot) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

I also missed your point about the usb port. gingerbreak needs to be cable connected, i forget why. and without the cable you can't experiment in recovery. with zv9 all I remember working is gingerbreak.
sometimes my bad usb port OV's will still respond if you clean the pocket lint out of the port with a straightpin and jack the cable in slightly crooked (mine like to lean left) then prop the cable up on a book or something about an inch or two from the phone, and weight the phone down so the cable is under pressure.

I just spend 2hrs desoldering the micro usb port and putting a good one in. Wasted alot of eyedrops too. Its a no go. At lease the phone charges normally now without prying the port downwards. It must be a kernel thing blocking the debug/usb mount from working.

Is there any way to flash an old version of update.zip. I tried renaming other roms, but signature verification fails everytime. Seems like it won't work w/ zv9.

that's the only released update.zip unfortunately.
maybe try this tool, it makes no mention of adb or usb in the writeup...

Thanks, didn't work. It even rebooted on 2nd & 3rd try and continues rooting. I submitted a ticket, so hopefully it might work one day.... Right now, there's only 4 requests. haha

There's a post on xda ov forums from someone who used something called stumproot.. I've never used it myself though

Edit: I totally forgot gingerbreak got blocked on zv9 and a new method had to be developed. Here's the problem... It requires adb functioning to work.

I'm trying stumproot, when I install the apk, I received this error:
Parse error
There is a problem parsing the package.
Not sure what it means, I've also tried v1.0.0 and same error.
This is downloaded from the official site: downloads.codefi.re--jcase--Stump-v1.2.0.apk

As for the adb version, I already mentioned adb/usb mount is not working on this phone, so can't use it.
