Ok, I've rooted a thunderbolt. Didn't have any trouble. And I've got barnicle going for wireless tether. But I really want good old wired tether through usb without using verizon's. And I've googled and searched the forum but I can't find info on it. Is there a rooted app for usb tether? Or is usb tether part of a rom, and I should be looking to load the correct rom?

Ok, so only paid options. I guess I'm just a bit surprised. I've modified webos before to actually usb tether without an app at all, without using the carrier's software. I figured with droids there would be a ton of free options for it.

Wireless tether is free and you don't need to connect with USB which has been pretty popular among Android users maybe that's the reason there are no wired app's available

but what will we do when the promo is up?

For the sake of this thread, we're referring to "wireless tether" or other apps that can be used on rooted phones to create a wifi hotspot tether.

This is different than Verizon's "Mobile Hotspot", which will soon not be free.

The big difference is that using the root apps are a violation of Verizon's TOS.
