Rooting for Eclair and leaked Froyo DK28

I've never seen that settings option before. Can you upload a screen shot? ShootMe is available in the Market and it's free.

I LOVE that shootme app!!! BTW it says that you can only use it if your phone is rooted  ....

I am assuming that the rooting is for all adroids .... ooooooorrr is it specific to the Epic? Because as my "siganure" says I have a mytouch

So are you trying to root a MyTouch or an Epic? Because those screen shots do not look like the Epic's menu, and this root script is device-specific to the Epic.

=/ a mytouch... when I typed a search it gave me this thread

I now I feel like a complete idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (the process of learning a new gadget and new Os)

Hahaha
That's funny

I thought that was strange that you were saying charge only with debugging on.

Go click forums on the top and then find th mytouch section and there should be a section on rooting for your device unless its not rooted yet which should be fairly obvious

thanks anyways to all who tried to help!!!

No problem. Good luck rooting!

If it makes you feel any better you've helped build this guide - I'm going to add a note that this only works for the Epic ;)

one last question... would you happen to know if these files would help with rooting the mytouch (Android SDK and Extract One click root v2.3.0)?

The reason I ask is becuase someone in the mytouch fourm here recommended another site but it has links to files that are blocked by the building where I live =/

Yes, as stated above Android SDK is universal - the one click root however is not. Take a look at this entry of the AC blog for instructions on a root method for the MyTouch 3G.

T-Mobile here in the states has free tethering - is the same true in the UK? If so you could tether your computer to your phone and download it that way. Or just try downloading directly onto your phone and then transfer it to your computer.

the downloading from phone seems easy enough but that's not gonna work cuz I am using the wifi from the same place... I just arrived to the UK sooooooo Vodafone is having issues with my phone settings (no internet outside my apartment =(

what is tethering?

EDIT - nevermind I googled it jijiji And it all comes down to not having internet on the phone just yet =/

Wow, that's a tough spot to be in. I suppose you could go to an internet cafe, download the file and transfer it to your phone. Or go to a place that has WiFi and use it to download the file directly to your phone.

Z4root Concerns? Reliability? 1click root wonder app?

Ok- so yes I used the search tool- so I apologize if someone did post this here in the Galaxy Epic forum...

I see a lot of noob threads and a lot of 1click root references- but many still use a computer- I was hopeful (dreaming?) of a market app that does it with ease... I just happened to do a search today and came up with z4root. 89 reviews average more than 4.5stars... but I'm still VERY apprehensive of bricking and not easily going back. Supposedly this is compatible with all Galaxy variants- AND the latest version includes a one button press to UNROOT. Very cool.

Has anyone here used this method for an Epic? Any feedback positive or negative would be much appreciated. I also have My Backup Pro- should I create a PRE rooted backup (and of WHAT in particular) and offload that to my computer in the event of problems? If I run that backup while Rooted- would it magically unroot my phone- or would I still have to rely on the app to unroot THEN restore from backup?

FYI: I also have a Mac only and thus why I've been more apprehensive of rooting.

I have never heard of this before. Are you sure it lists the Epic 4G specifically as compatible?

There is a comment made just today in the market page that says it worked on his epic for what that is worth. A vibrant and fascinate user also confirmed in the comment. The developer has a link to his thread on xna as well... seems legit...sounds too good to be true. If so, do I run this, then install clockwork mod then use that to look for epic experience and id be all set without ever using a computer? That'd make this mac user who doesn't know a lick of linux very happy.
