Rooting question Galaxy s3

I stupidly deleted some of pictures. The android data recovery requires me to download a program to "root the phone" to my pc then proceed to root my phone. I am concerned about downloading strange software and also about turning my phone into a brick once I root. Not sure if is worth it. Any input is appreciated
