Rooting questions: Best rooting method? Best kernel?

lol no problemo. I'll be on, so if you run into craziness let me know. Check that thread out and read the latest 2-3 pages as well. It's always good to do your homework :).

GnexRootToolkit.v1.4.sfx.exe[Mirror 1][Mirror 2]

Do I download "Mirror1," "Mirror2," or both?

So I accidentally downloaded both, went to Koush, and it's a forum. What do I do now?

Do you have at least one of the .exe's? Just load that as normal. He has multiple links just in case one server/site goes down.

Koush = developer of CWM Recovery and ROM Manager.

Yup, got at least one. His "help link" is down, so I may be asking more questions than I should lol. Now what should I be doing?

Open up his thread (the one here at AC) and go step by step. You need to install/configure the drivers. If for some reason the fastboot drivers don't work (and trust me, it'll guide you through it--you will know if they don't and you won't harm a thing), you may have to get a bit funky and Google the issue (or check XDA Developers' thread on it). That being said, this is an updated version so that may be completely resolved.

Essentially, you install/configure drivers, then you (1) unlock, then (2) root. You can choose to backup your stuff there, but again I recommend simply sliding stuff over to your computer. Doesn't hurt to be thorough in backing up!

I hate to sound like a pain in the ass, but do you know where I can find his thread on AC? I'm trying to be super careful so I don't brick this thing.

When you do what, try to install it? Try redownloading?

OR...use another method of doing it. You still need the drivers and such, however.

Ok, let me see what this guy on YouTube is doing. He's at this point.

Argh I'm having terrible luck! My friggin computer doesn't wanna download anything!

Getting a lot of "file not found" and the links I can download look different than the YouTube video.

I gotta walk away for a few minutes. I'm on an hour and a half for a 10 min process...

No worries. If this Wug's process fails, try our other guides. It seems like your only roadblock is getting everything to download, though.

Wug's is cake. If you can get it downloaded, install the drivers and rock n' roll. It took me like half an hour to get the stupid drivers configured (that was months ago, I think v1.4 is easier), and like ten minutes to unlock and root (if that).

Wug usually hangs out here:

Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit

I've asked him questions in that thread, and he answers them promptly, so if you're having trouble with his stuff, that'd be the place to ask......as he'll actually be the one answering you.
