I have my skyrocket rooted, and I love it, if your not root I recommend it, its the only way to tap the true potential of this beast. To root my phone I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=784296&stc=1&d=1321435888 witch worked great. I have been looking for custom roms now, I have tried the quik wiz custom rom, witch I liked alot buy after a few days started lagging and glitching, so I flashed back to stock rom. Next I flashed to cm7 it was nice but some how completely killed my 16g SD card, so now I'm flashed back to stock-rooted. Anybody know of a stable custom rom or custom kernel?⇨⇨⇨here is a great link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383464 its a compilation of links for rooting/custom roms/kernels for the skyrocket

It depend on different factors, root normally wont hurt, if you still have all stock system apps/and bloatware installed, also you cant have a custom recovery like clockworkmod recovery. Normally best bet is you should return phone to factory stock if its an OTA update, then install update and reroot, but I don't really like having to go through all that, I want ICS bad so I'm going to wait on someone to make a deodex version of the official ROM (Will more than likely happen within a week of the official release). Do you have a the update now? I have the leaked version but I'm kinda weary about installing it.

No, I don't. I am just having 2nd thoughts with rooting the phone. You mentioned returning phone to factory stock, do you mean ODIN or simply the Factory data reset found in Menu>Settings>Privacy?

If you are rooted and have a custom recovery you will need odin, if your just rooted with out custom recovery then a simple factory data wipe/reset will work.

I rooted my phone just now. Saw a line in windows command prompt regarding a bad variable name for busybox. In my phone i see icon for superuser but not busybox. I was able to install titanium backup. Is everything ok or did i just mess up my phone? Lol

Sounds like your rooted if you got SU icon and there wont be a busybox icon anywhere, that's normal.

what does this mean in english,

no but seriously, how about for a super novice droider like me

i had iphone for a few yrs and it was easy as heck to use

im trying to like the skryrocket but i dont know whats the best way to utilize its potential

i dont do alot of fancy stuff with my phone, some web, some camera, texting, calls, email
basically the basics
my thing is is i want the to work smoother, been having this problem with the bluetooth and before had issue with the mms sending/recieve

getting frustrated

the whole voiding warrenty thing kinda worries me tho

i never jail broke my iphone for the same reason,

ill look in to it

Yes you need backups, the best way to do this is get titanium backup from the market, trust me its the best backup app out there, also you can get around the whole voiding warranty thing buy simply unrooting the phone, and they will never know.

ok i just downloaded Titanium backup but now what? How do I save all my stuff?

Well you have to be rooted to use this app I think, but you can give it a try, You got to backup/restore, then you hit the phones menu button, pick batch, then click the run button beside backup all user apps+system data, on the next page that pops up, at the very top click on run batch operations, and let it do its thang, when it come time to restore your apps follow the same steps except pick restore all user apps+system data, if it wont let you do anything at all odds are you will have to find a noroot backup app in the market. In that case you can back up your contacts to your sim card, or your SD card, make sure you have your pics/music saved on SD card.

If titanium wouldn't let you back anything up its because your not rooted, I should have mentioned this before I told you to download it sorry, but don't remove titanium backup from your phone cause you will need it when rooted. So to back up you apps download ultimate backup from the market, I just downloaded it and checked it out it should work for you, and its by jrummy16 who is a well know and trusted android developer. When you get app open it it will load up all your apps, hit the phones menu button, select batch, then pick backup all apps.

thoughts on doomlords v4 root kit? is it still compatible with skyrocket? i have read several guides but most suggest the v3.

Personal I don't know, I haven't really read up on it much, not sure if its compatible with the skyrocket, I think the main reason for v4 is that the phone manufacturers don't want you to root your phone, so when someone finds a way to root it like v3, the manufacturers start making there new phone so that they can't be rooted with that method, its a back and forth thing. The main point is it don't really matter what version you use to get your root, v4 or v3 or easy root, you get the same thing from them all.
