[Rooting] Updated Root Method Available for Kindle Fire

Saw this over at RootzWiki. Haven't tried it yet, but will soon since the 6.2.1 update broke root on my Kindle Fire.

Edit: Changed link to the RootzWiki thread started by the developer. Also, added link to second thread below that has instructions on installing ADB and the Kindle Fire drivers, as well as getting Google Apps working. Finally, got a chance to re-root my Kindle and all is now well again.

I've tried it 4 times and cannot get it to work - BusyBox and Titanium Backup both state that I am not rooted.

Any suggestions?

What problems are you encountering? I'm still at work and haven't had a chance to work on re-rooting my Kindle.

sorry for the noobness, but how exactly is one supposed to run the apk. I've tried to get ADB running but am completely lost

I follow all the steps with no problems but I am still not rooted. I'm not sure why.

I've side loaded a number of apps, including this one, but have not run it yet. I also have SuperUser Elite that I bought. Seems like after I run the rootwiki apk,then I should be able to side load and run the SU and SU Elite apk and be good. Opinions?

I went ahead and updated one of my kid's Fires, and then tried this method. It works without issue. Little more involved then SuperOneClick old way, however it works all the same.

I did it again and BusyBox tells me I'm rooted, but Titanium Backup still says I'm not.

is your binary up to date?
Try clearing the cache of titanium back up, or go into the menu and hit, Reload app

My BIG issue with all of these new methods is that NONE of them can unroot you.. I want to unroot so I can use Amazon Videos..

I hope to god SuperOneClick comes up with a new version..

Finally got some time to re-root my Kindle using the method in the original post. Some folks may be having problems with getting ADB set up so I updated the OP to add a link to a thread that explains how to set up ADB as well as getting Google Market running.

My BIG issue with all of these new methods is that NONE of them can unroot you.. I want to unroot so I can use Amazon Videos..

I hope to god SuperOneClick comes up with a new version..

You can unroot with using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper from the Market. Run it and back up root. To unroot, run the program and select the option to temporarily unroot. Either reboot or force stop the Amazon Video app and you be back in business with Amazon Video streaming. Restore root by running OTA RootKeeper.

Awesome, thanks! Tried unroot with the rootwiki and it did not work. The voodoo app does. Got my KF Wed, rooted Fri, have market, gmail, calender installed. Now temp unroot and videos run, and all Google apps.

It is really cool. It makes hacking around with your Fire pretty easy. Used it to root, install google apps/market/go launcher, then unroot. Quick and easy, and Amazon VOD worked when I was done.

That download includes adb & drivers. After you unzip the download, just run the install_drivers.bat and you are good to go. Then run the run.bat and it takes you to a menu where you can make your selection of what you want to do. It will download the most recent apk's on demand when you want to install something (Go Launcher, Google Apps, TWRP, etc).

Easy.
