Rotary phone, dial up internet and the head phone jack

Re: Let's be clear: The headphone jack is not gone

If you’ve invested quite a bit of money into a really good pair of wired earphones/headphones that need the 3.5mm connector, your best/cheapest option is to buy a 3.5mm to USB-C dongle.

If you’re not an audiophile but just want a decent pair of earphones/headphones which are reasonably comfortable then Samsung’s AKG USB-C earphones in the Note 10 box will suit you just fine because their quality is pretty good (not great, but good for an in-box set).

If you want the most convenient and future-proof earphones then I would go for Bluetooth. The best cost $100+ but it is quite easy to get a decent pair of Bluetooth earphones/headphones for around $30. Just don’t expect an extremely long battery life or fast charging.

I got a pair on Amazon for around $30 that last for over 10 hours, which is a lot better than the Beats sport ones that were stolen from work a few weeks after I bought them.

personally I belong in the cord cutter crowd. so sick of cords! I want as much wireless as I can get.

Either cut the cords or add chargers (with cords). 🙂

Re: Let's be clear: The headphone jack is not gone

Thread title should be 'Let's be clear - I was just bored and wanted to create a meaningless thread'

Anyone who has used a cell phone for more a year (which is pretty much everyone) or so knows damn well the standard headphone jack is GONE...

Re: Let's be clear: The headphone jack is not gone

Nice try, but not quite. It's gone and unless they make a compact adapter that allows for charging and audio without the ridiculous dongles, then it is time to go full Bluetooth

Are you saying you can't wirelessly charge and use USB headphones at the same time? I haven't plugged a wire in for charging for years.

I don't think anyone is saying you can't do that.. people are just saying your logic that you can do that doesn't mean there is a headphone jack. I mean you are literally reaching so hard to justify lol. It is obvious he is talking about people that want to charge via wire + listen .. You know .. how you could before when Samsung had the jack and mocked others for not?

Personally, for casual listening purposes, my 1000XM2s work fine. I’m not a stickler for absolute quality when I’m listening to compressed music files over the internet, so Bluetooth’s objectively inferior quality isn’t much of an issue for what I use it for. I go wired when I’m at home on the PC, and I disagree that the 3.5mm port is “obsolete” because whilst it is becoming less popular in the consumer space, the enthusiast and professional spaces will still see it being used.

However, one annoying issue that I still want to see addressed is interference. Not solved entirely because it’s pretty much impossible but mitigated to a larger degree. It gets quite annoying when your music skips frequently due to the sheer number of interfering 2.4GHz waves all around you and is part of the reason why I keep the 3.5mm cable with me if I have to use it with my Note8.

Re: Potential Note 10 3.5" Headphone jack mod?!

I’m not a audiophile or however you call it. But I’m really happy with just a Bluetooth headset. Nonetheless looks like a cool project just because it can :p

What evs. The less differentiation Samsung has, the more marketshare they lose. Their decision. Losing the jack IMO was a poor business decision in that regard.

Not sure about that. Those who use apple are used to the same old, same old. If they see Android phones as the same, they may switch. The better screen and a few options and no longer stuck in the apple void is why they would switch.

If you want to be different, get a Fold.

It really just depends. The market in general is moving towards audio through USB C. And USB C is being utilized more often in newer products. Eventually, the 3.5mm jack will likely phase out. Not sure how long that will be.

This morning, I brought the N10+ to work along with the included buds. I Mosley just use them for phonecalls so I can work handsfree. But I was thinking that sometimes I would use my headphones on my laptop so I thought I would need to leave my old ones around too...then I realized my work laptop also has USB C. I tried the USB headphones on my laptop and they worked fine. Obviously everyone's circumstances will be different, but like every transition period, there will be some level of inconvenience.

For Samsung, I'd guess their research coupled with the opportunity costs of keeping the jack didn't justify keeping the jack. It's a business decision and add far as I can tell, they are not about to go out of business for it.

As an aside, my Galaxy buds came in yesterday. After getting the right flanges on for me and figuring how it's supposed to sit in my ear, I found myself pretty impressed. Sounds quality is good and clear and bass was surprisingly good. But that's simply because these actually fit my ears. I wish I could say that about any of the buds included with every Samsung phone I've owned. I can never get the flanges to deal, so it always sounds like crap, including the AKG buds that came with the N10+.
