Rugged Armor and Samsung Rugged Protective

Too many people we're saying it was the inner hard plastic against the glass that caused or aided in their phone breaking on the Note8 forums so I'll have to pass on the Defender. Now if they bring the Pursuit series that the S9+ has to the Note9 I'll definitely be grabbing it. Kinda like the Defender but all protective rubber on the inside.

Yea, I've never been a fan of the Defender's hard plastic shell rubbing up against the sides of my phone. I do have the Defender but doubt I'll ever use it.

I think that's a myth. No matter if you use the Rugged case or a Spigen Tough Armor case, hard plastic from that case is still coming into contact with your phone.

Well my father-in-law broke the front bottom right of his Note8 while using the Defender and he has no idea how it broke, so I'd say the hard plastic inner shell is the leading culprit with so many others reporting the same. I guess you're the kind of person who has to see it to believe it, but that's an expensive gamble and I'd heed the warnings.

I think almost no matter what case you use you can break the glass on these phones. The rugged case for the S9 and Note 8 from Samsung a lot of the reviews on Amazon of people breaking the screen on small falls. Same with the tough Armor.

I don't think it's the case design with most of these. Spigen Tough Armor is a pretty hard case though. I almost wonder if it's simply the shock of the impact that shatters these screens as well because even with tempered glass I still see a lot of them breaking. Hell, even iPhone screens break in thick cases.

Maybe a soft gel case would fair better because there is no hard materials in it. However it's nearly impossibl to find gel cases anymore. That was 2008.

Almost to the point to where Samsung wants you to break the phone to get more money. I'm telling you, I'm currently using the OtterBox Pursuit series on the S9+ and it's probably the best case I've used since the Ballistic cases back on the HTC EVO or the OtterBox Armor series from a few years ago. The inside has rubber bumpers all over it and the exterior is all rubber also. It's just going to suck when my backordered Note9 finally arrives and I have to give it up.

Yea. I really hate the curved displays on these phones. I hardly ever use the edge panel anyway. Much prefer a flat screen so I can have a case that protects all sides.

So some of you think the Samsung Rugged case would be a better choice for protection over Otterbox Defender?

If only the rugged armor would come in a color to match a blue phone... I am so regretting getting the Ocean Blue color because no case matches it, and all the good cases only come in black.

Interesting points. I have a note 8 at the moment and a very small fall in a Spigen tough armour resulted in a very loud thud. Thankfully the phone was fine but I did have a feeling that the rubber is quite hard on the case and therefore does it pass the shock to the phone rather than disperse it. I also have a couple of tech21 cases and whilst I don't like the feel of them so much I can see how the softer design is problem much better at separating the phone from the shock

No, Speck has a new blue/whitish presidio grip case made specifically for the ocean blue, I’d assume.

It is available at Verizon Corp stores and Speck’s site.

I believe so. At least the sides and edges of the phone are not constantly rubbing up against hard plastic which over time will damage the finish of you phone.

I've had it for the Note 8. s8 plus, and past phones. It didn't scratch or damage the phone at all when I took it out to trade it in. Like I said the rugged case by Samsung for Note 8 a lot of complaints about cracked screens from small falls.

I haven't used the Samsung rugged case for the note 8 but my understanding from reviews and YouTube videos is that the lip above and below the screen was tiny giving the screen very little protection in a fall. It looks like the rugged case for the note 9 has much bigger front lips

I have the Samsung Clear View flip case since I got 30% off when I pre-ordered.

I love the case but flip/wallet cases can be annoying at times so I ordered the Spigen Rugged Armor a few nights ago.

I'd use the Samsung rugged armor case if it came with port covers. I work outside for half the year and port covers are necessary.

This ^^
I used the blue Samsung rugged case for my note 8 and loved it, I was hoping for a blue one again for the note 9 but once I opened the box on the silver rugged case I was pleasantly surprised, it looked more grey than silver on the pictures but much more silver in the flesh.
The face protection (raisivity as Flossy Carter says) is much more than the Note 8 case and it just seems to wrap around the phone better and feels great in the hand, not the lightest of cases though but makes no difference to me.

Update:

I have been rocking the Samsung protective case all week and it is growing on me.

I think I am enjoying the feel of the extra weight now honestly. I feel much more in control when using the phone and much safer in my hands.

Never thought in a million years I'd use this case as much as I do but I am enjoying it!

Dedduck, have any issues charging wireless with that case? My phone seems to get a lot warmer with this case than any other.

None so far. I have 6 different wireless chargers of different brands and no issue on any of them so far. It does warm up a bit but nothing to worry about I don't think.
