Wow, sitting in my window office on the 2nd floor in Princeton, NJ pulling down 17.56 Mbps!*

But I've noticed that downstairs on the main floor I get only 3.89--9.89 Mbps (not that I'm complaining about that, lol).

Don't know if this is true, but a couple of Verizon store reps were telling me that the only nearby 4G towers are in Newark, NJ and Philadelphia, PA and Princeton is about equidistant between these two cities, both about 40-45 miles away. Princeton was very late getting 3G coverage, good cable modem service, etc, 'cause we're actually a pretty small town so I wasn't expecting much but am astounded.

If that's true, I can understand how Verizon really does expect to cover the whole country pretty quickly. Apparently, being on the 2nd floor of a two story building really helps. Gotta go buy a couple more batteries!

*Other tests ranged from 9.5 to 12.2 Mbps.

I live in Brooklyn NY, and the 4G coverage here is amazing, it never goes from 4G to 3G, stays on 4G all the time. I don't think all of the reps do their homework because one told me to go to VW website to see if I was covered before I purchased the phone. But I already knew I was.

I can GUARANTEE you that the store reps are wrong about where the towers are located, theres no way those towers reach to you that far.. lol

I'm currently on the outskirts of Princeton into Plainsboro, and I'm not hitting LTE right now. According to the 4G coverage map, I'm right outside of it. Seeing as how there's a huge area, extending from PA to Trenton, it seems like they just wanted to extend it for the majority of the Princeton area as well. I can only hope that they extend it a little further into Plainsboro as that's where I work. I also miss out on LTE at home because I'm on the outskirts of the 4G coverage from the New Brunswick, NJ area.

Sweet! I've been getting 22 down and 5 up consistently as well. And in all my tests, i've never gotten below 14mbps :)

Verizon wasn't kidding when they said the speeds may be higher than advertised.

Thanks. I usually take anything I hear from a Verizon employee with a large grain of salt. Regardless, I'm still very happy about these speeds in little ole Princeton!

That is encouraging news indeed. Once my market gets 4G LTE later this year I will be able to get modems for my house as well.

Later on in the afternoon, I did some more speed tests. First one was an amazing 23.23 Mbps up. But the next four tests over the next two minutes ranged from only 2.57 to 3.77 Mbps.

Strange that the speed fluctuated so drastically in less than a minute. Some others on another thread said that 4G was down completely around Philly part of the day.

How's that battery holding up while being on 4G all the time for those of you who are?
Mine was doing pretty well most of the day until I started uploading and editing lots of Google docs and spread sheets. That took a lot of juice. Had to plug it in to my computer to recharge it some and on the way home it reached 50%, but as soon as I got home and unplugged it, it jumped immediately from 50% to 35% so I think the battery widget is totally uncalibrated or something. I even started to imagine that the battery widget was sucking all my power! I have 2 back-up batteries (standard and extended) so I don't really worry about juice too much. Just hard to get the darn back off the phone to swap the batteries!

I was getting 3-4 Mbps downloads speads again today, but on a lark I switched the server being used in the speedtest (further away) and my speed immediately jumped to 29.43 Mbps. I don't think this Speedtest app means much but if I can get consistently high readings it will still serve my purpose of making all the geeks here feel even more inadequate.
