RUMOR? Echo getting 2.3 on August 1st!

Apparently, the update was sticking in memory and ate up all my internal memory. It was down to less than 1mb. It looks like the Sprint guy fixed it, back to 500. Going to wait as well until Sprint addresses this patch.

Are you saying Sprint Store unbricked it?
What os did you leave with?
Installed software retained?

Mine was never bricked in the first place. The update would not install. I tried a couple of times, then the sprint guys tried a couple of times. Then they hard reset my phone and tried a couple of more times. Apparently, each time the download was performed it was getting stuck in memory and eventually ate up all my internal memory causing the phone to lag and lock. Sprint was able to fix it, but I don't know what they did. I'm guessing another hard reset. So I did have to start over from scratch.

I did the download a few times myself.
Finally had the screen with the Andy out of the box graphic.
Before it completed, it rebooted and is now stuck @ Kyocera logo.
Sprint store after work.:'(

Bricked here as well. My wife's that is. She's headed to the store right now to find out what they can/will do. I'm stuck at work :( I hope for their sake though she walks out of there this evening with a working phone whether it's her echo in a working form or something else.

Mine was rooted and is now bricked. Sprint couldn't fix it, told me I had to replace it. Bummer! Ohh well, its only going to cost $35 to get replacement.

Xoom: Unlocked, Rooted, Overclocked at 1.4, and on Tiamat 2.0 Manta Ray.

Kyocera Echo: Rooted and Awesome.

I'm getting screwed. The nearest repair shop is about an hour drive from me (my Sprint store doesn't do repairs). They told me if they can't fix it, I'll have to take a loaner phone and then they'll try to get a replacement. So I called Sprint CS and was told they could ship me an advanced replacement, but they don't have the Echo available and offered to swap it for one of 5 weaker, older, models. Have waited twice now for supervisor call backs and heard nothing.

I've been really, really happy with their CS so far, but this is pathetic for an issue that I have nothing to do with - non-rooted, 31 day old phone. At least offer to swap it for something equivalent.

Well sprint brought mine back from the grave which is good. It's stock 2.2 now :-\

I think they might have pulled the update cause I can't download it now. SO as of now only 1 person in the forum has 2.3, that's depressing. Well I guess I'll wait for a fix before I go through this again:'(

OMG !!
Really sorry & upset for these news..I am not living in US so i just read the news today.
Last night my friend (only 2 person that I know use echo in my town ) told me that he had his echo bricked, had the 8507 code & won't boot..stucked at Kyocera Logo.

Just a couple minutes ago, I received the OTA Notification, cancelled it..
If I live in US, maybe my friend & I can go to Sprint's nearest store but we are not :'(

So the best move is to watch the "activity" on this forum, if there is green light for this update, I'll do it.
If not, I stucked with ver. 2.2.1...forever.... :'(

Ladies and Gentlemen . . . if you got a Kyocera Echo, then I'm sorry too. Maybe you shouldn't have either. Either way. Don't -- I repeat DON'T -- update your phone. Neither Sprint nor Kyocera Mobile Phones will be of ANY help to get you a working phone without paying up, again. And, Kyocera claims no fault or warranty responsibility due to this "update." You've been warned.

More news later about what happened.

Please post it soon - I'm going back to battle with them tomorrow..

Well, NFC and WiFi calling were mistakes and have been removed from the website. I had a strange feeling about this update so I went and turned off scheduled update checks yesterday. Somebody at Kyocera missed a very important test case, by the looks of it.

Well, I went to my sprint store and they couldn't fix it. Was going to have a replacement mailed to me for $35. The woman said they couldn't order one for me because they were out of stock where ever they order them from, not sure exactly. Ended up getting a brand new phone in store, they kept one battery and the memory card, and I got everything else!

I got pretty lucky. I won't be trying to update again until this gets figured out.

Someone on Sprint forum said Kyocera Corporate wants device ID codes. Must be a production issue similar to the phones that 8507'd on previous firmware update. Will be making some backups of certain things while I wait.

EXACTLY the same experience, Castorshells (but no offer/threat to mail).

I would welcome tips on getting back to my installed apps & settings after getting a replacement Echo.

Just plugging in my original SDcard does not display my apps as installed.

Phone and SD were at about 90% full b4 this problem.
Android market let me download my paid apps again, no problem.

I am a user of Android Market, AppBrain, and Amazon Appstore.

Update has been pulled according to engadget. My phone was bricked as well but I was able to get it fixed at the sprint store in about 40 minutes with no charge. Considering the update was pulled I doubt Kyocera will be claiming no fault on this issue. Not to mention all Echo's should still be under the 1 yr warranty still.

There is nothing you can do but manually bring everything back. However, if you root, you can use titanium backup. This will backup all your apps (and settings). If you pay for the full app, then you can run a batch process that will then restore everything. I had my phone wiped by Sprint, and within 5-10 minutes my phone was back up and running just as I had left it.

Any tips on getting Sprint to swap my phone by mail without me driving 30+ miles and missing work to go to a repair shop?

Any one have any corporate email addresses or contacts?

According to the sprint community forums, they have officially pulled the update and Kyocera and Sprint are working on a fix.

So the question is, when a fix is made, who's gonna jump on it?
