Running Applications and Battery

I am new to the Incredible and was wondering if there is any way to check which apps/programs (just what in general) are running without the use of a task killer?

Also, where can I see how my battery use is being monitored? How can I tell if my phone/battery is "in use" or "sleeping?"

I am looking to extend battery life...probably like everyone else.

you can go to settings > applications >running applications and see what is running, likewise you can go to settings > about phone > battery > battery use. If you root your phone you can use auto killer, i have a stock battery i take my phone off the charger around 7 am and go till around 8 pm before its in the yellow

I came from a BB & almost took the Android back. After research/visits/calls--I shut off gps maps & dramatically extended my battery

the phone is deff. more powerful than its battery, i only use the gps in my car when its plugged into the car charger
