I've never bought off contract before. I have a Iphone5 which I plan to selll and then buy the HTCOne off contract. How will I obtain a sim card? I mean I can't use the one I have for my Iphone. Or can I? If I have to get a new sim card from an att store, I'm assuming I have to pay for that as well?? Will I get a different phone #? I know I can back up my contacts and pictures, but not quite sure how to do that either. Just curious of the whole process of doing this. TIA! :)

For AT&T, you should be fine. In fact, you should be able to use your iPhone SIM in the HTC One. They may be a little bit of plan wonkiness (I've never had an iPhone on my line -- anyone clear that up for me?) but otherwise you go in, buy the phone, and leave. I've done that a few times in the past weeks, actually. :)

Phil, can you preorder off contract??

Yes, after a week or two you'll start getting texts/e-mails saying that a compatible data plan must be added. That can be done through OLAM. But in the meantime there shouldn't be any issues using data - it's just an administrative thing.

AT&T Store.

They shouldn't charge you, just tell them you need a different size SIM card. Iirc AT&T did charge for new SIMs, perhaps if they are lost? But I can't imagine them charging you for something they basically get for free after you're paying $600 for a phone.

Will I get a different phone #?

No, they will just provision your account with the new SIM.

I believe they will do that for you. I know T-Mo does at least. All my contacts and photos are in Google's cloud so I've never had to deal with it. But I would suggest asking the person who sells you the phone. They should do it for free for you.

$599.99 off contract for HTC One 32 GB probably.

I've bounced from my 5 to a Note 2, One X+,ect with no problems using a adapter and never got a text from ATT about my plan.

It is generally $300 more for off contract. I may use my iPad Mini "line" that I rarely use and not under contract to upgrade- Thinking outside the box...

Can you use the SIM card in your iPad mini in a.phone and have it work? If not can you upgrade a tablet plan to a phone line and get a contract price?
