Similar or related question. I am looking to pick up a DINC 2 this weekend. I will assume the device won't have the latest GB update, and I would like to root. How can I be sure the phone won't install the OTA GB update from VZW? It won't do the update unless you "OK" it first right?

I know once I root and install another ROM (i.e. CM 7) the OTA's won't happen, but just wanted to try and confirm I would be OK until I root and install a new ROM.

If the phone doesn't automatically come with GB installed, you'll be fine. You would have to go to software updates and confirm that you want to download and install it.

Unless you live in some small town in the middle of nowhere, most verizon stores have already updated the phones to the 2.3.3 release... :-( (I had a friend drive to 4 different stores looking for a 2.2 device and they only one's that had it was offered was a refub.)

Makes you wonder if they rushed to update existing stock so that the S-OFF hack couldn't be used to get rid of their bloatware..

So now that the GB update is out, my understanding is that I can't root using the methods people in this thread have been using. But that's just temporary right? Is it just a matter of time until the people who cracked it the first time will crack it again and those of us on GB will be able to root and flash? Or is it an unknown and maybe they'll crack it an maybe not?

It will be cracked. No worries buddy. Just will have to wait a little while is all. It'll come tho, just hang tight. U have a Droid man, best support group in all of cell tech. So just relax bro and enjoy ur phone, and think about how even more incredible it will be with root!

Quick update on my situation from a few posts above. I got the DINC 2 today and while I was driving home from the store it did the update (without asking me for any confirmation!). I took the phone out of my pocket at home and it said it was updating from VZW.... I was like damn! I pulled the battery to try and stop it but it started right back where it was when I put it back in. I am at 2.3.3 now so guess I am just going to have to love GB for the time being until more root love comes to the newly updated DINC 2.

I am sure it will happen, just may take some time. Until then I have my Nook Color to play with (going to CM7 off sd to play with for now)
