I have an S7 Edge that I bought about 3.5 years ago (maybe more). I am ready for an upgrade and a new phone.
I mostly use my phone for games (nothing too crazy or immersive- Candy Crush, Clash Royale, Pokemon Go), Whatsapp video and voice calls and texting, social media, to take pictures. Of course looking for a phone with a great battery life as well (for when we are able to leave quarantine).

I have Verizon, but Samsung website seems to have better pricing.
S10+, 128 GB, $539.99
S20+, 128 GB, $809.99

Which should I get and explain please.
TIA

I would go with s10+ to save some money , if money no concern get the latest s20 and be good for quite some time including 5g when it becomes more popular.

Hi , welcome!

You dont need to make multiple threads , I merged them into your orginal one .

Unless the extra $260 is an issue, I always say get the newest available.

The GS10+ was easily my favorite Sammy phone, & with it getting One UI 2.1 so early, the question of upgrading to the GS 20 series was tough, but no regrets so far.

I just hate what Verizon does to Sammy phones. I have At&t and they're bad enough, but I set up my mom's GS20+ on Verizon, & no Samsung cloud and no Google Duo integration with the dialer. It just sucks that you pay that much for a feature phone & the carrier takes features away to promote the use of their apps.

Just one of many reasons I am not with Verizon.

S10+ save the money and get a phone that can still fit in your pocket and fit the built in chargers now coming in cars. S10+ is very good quality wise. You don't need to spend extra money to get features that you will never use or performance difference that you could not differentiate. The S10+ is plenty fast and smooth with a great display.

Agree with this completely. Love my s10-plus also, since pre-order and launch. Skipping on upgrading as I love the headphone jack and it does everything I need.

100% agreed. I say this having an S10+ since launch, and realizing shortly after I got it that I would have been more than happy staying with my S9+.

Don't get caught up in the marketing hype or "fear of missing out". We've reached peak phone, and all that's left to differentiate the new models are extreme edge features that are "exciting and must have!" only on blogs and marketing articles.

Yep, I really do feel like we've reached peak Galaxy S last year

I still think the ceramic S10+is nicer overall and comes with 512gb of storage, the 120hz on the S20 cannot be unseen though if you have used it, out of the box I did not see a big camera difference although as the S20 has new hardware and the S10 the same module as the S9 the S20 could pull away camera wise via updates. I think it comes down to price.

FWIW I think we will not have reached peak galaxy until the cameras are up there with Google, Apple and Huawei and sadly they are still down there with the best of the rest with OnePlus arguable better this year. The hardware is clearly there on the S20 though so maybe they can get there via software?

S10 easily since you managed to keep a s7 edge for almost 4 years.

Makes more sense the S10 is a fine phone.

I agree the S10 is a great phone and since we just got the UI 2.1 and it is pretty similar to the 20 I would say get the 10 it's cheaper. Now unless you have the money and just want the latest and a 5G phone which 5G isn't really fully out yet than get the 20. But I love my S10 plus and had no desire to get the 20.

I would use this argument in the inverse way.

Since he/she seems to keep phones for several years, perhaps consider a phone that will hold up better in time. Right now 5G isn't relevant but I guess in 3 years it could be a different story.

Jumping into 5G today is like going in on the first day of HD-DVD vs Blu-ray Disc and choosing one.

You have no idea what you'll be into in two years. Or three. Or five.

Welcome to Android Central! Like some of the other users commented, I too would recommend going with the S10+. It's got the S20 camera update; you'll save a big chunk of cash; and last year's processor will be strong enough to handle all of your games and social media stuff!

GSM Arena states that the S10+ has a 4100 mAh battery and a 91-hour endurance rating. To compare, I have an S10 and have similar usage patterns, and with my 3400 mAh battery and 79-hour endurance rating, it lasts me the whole day and I have 20-30% left (on average) at the end of a normal day (after listening to music to and from work; making calls; sending texts; spending time on social media). The S10+ would probably serve you well!

Let us know what you decide! I've attached GSM Arena's spec sheet on the S10+.

You have a point but what if 5G battery improvements are big in a few years? Better optimization in 5G areas when your actually using 5G.

Remember the issues 4G phones had with battery when they first came out?

I would get the S10 and wait a few years to see the tech improves for 5G. Then buy a newer phone.
