I traded my Pixel 6 for an S22 Plus because I just couldn't take the terrible finger print sensor anymore. I knew the camera would not be as good, but I was shocked at how bad it was. I have never had a Samsung phone, but this was their flagship, and with so many people buying it, I thought how bad could the camera be. Well, I found out. Here is a comparison of photos taken with my S22 and my three year old Pixel 4XL. It's like night and day. And again, this is a three year old Pixel phone. The top one is the S22

Have you got a dog or cat? To me this is when the S22 performs the worst. In low light, I can hardly ever get a photo with their face in focus even when they barely move. And the fur is yellow-ish and blurred out. My 3 year old S10 performed better in those scenarios, and the iPhone 12 Pro is miles ahead of both. It's a shame as it's a very good phone otherwise, and even the camera has good strengths (zoom, selfies, etc). I still prefer the Samsung OneUI software to that of vanilla Google or Apple, so I'll stick with it, but for a flagship device like you say I've been less than impressed with some of my photos (particularly low light indoor ones like in your example).

I dont see that much difference tbh. Could you point out a couple things that are subpar in the s22 pic in your opinion?

This is probably not the best example, but I did not feel like going outside, so I just took these. Everything is washed out. Almost every picture I have taken blows out the highlights. Nothing is in focus. Look at the difference in sharpness in the mic and speaker. The contrast is much too low, and the black levels are bad. Look at the blown highlights on the back wall and computer screens. Keep in mind, this is a comparison between a three-year-old phone, and one that was just released. Every single picture I have taken has been much better on my OLD pixel - it's not even close. Sure, I can "fix" a lot of this in post, but the whole point of these cameras is that you don't have to. And how many people will actually do that.

The entire shelf is blurry, the colour is washed out, and the bracket on the wall has become almost invisible.

Yes the top picture is blurry. For me I prefer the color of top. The bottom color is too yellow on the pixel. Is the room really that yellow? As in bottom photo.other then no blurring I don't think the pixel photo. Is all that good either.

Actually, comparing my S22+ to my Pixel 4XL is not that meaningful. I just don't have any A/B shots with my Pixel 6 (which I don't have anymore). However, here is a shot with my P6 in the same room to show you what it can do.

Anyone know who this guy is? I'm a collector and love taking photos of my figures. No editing at all, just object eraser.
