Overcast conditions today. Almost caught a huuuuge dragonfly on my porch but it saw me before I could get close so I missed it. But did get another couple cool images of a hanging thief fly-- likely the same one from yesterday, same size and same location-- in the grass behind my storm pit.

And took a photo of the newcomer which according to Google lense is a Picture-winged fly.

I have never heard of a Picture-winged fly, but that little fella has some swag!

What settings are you using? Auto, 10x, 3x ??

Tripod or hand held?

I'm going 10x and handheld. I had a tripod but the swivel broke. I just try to find something to prop either my phone or my arms on now to try to eliminate shake.

First time I had heard of em myself, looked it up with Google lens. Piddling around with these insect photos has shown me critters I have never seen nor heard of before.

I'm beginning to think you're running some sort of entomology lab there, Shellcracker. :)

Lol do live close to some woods so that certainly helps and lots of trees and fruit trees in my yard. All credit goes to the Galaxy S22 for getting me into this stuff. Had no clue just how capable this thing could be, especially on small subjects like that. It's really impressive what they've done with their camera hardware and software.

It's official, these cameras on this lineup of Samsung phones are OP. This little Torpedo bug was maybe 3/8th of am inch long yet it got the swirly eye and the leaf-like veins in crystal clear detail. And didn't sacrifice color or exposure either. Give those people in the camera department a raise

Wow, that's amazing you got such a great photo of this little guy. He sure has unusual eyes. :)

Do you use 3:4 9:16 1:1 or full

I have played with the settings and noticed that on full at 10x the image is closer than the other settings. Have no clue why don't have any understanding of the settings and how they effect the telephoto part.

I have also used pro with everything auto. Images appear much better with just regular photo than pro.
