S22 Ultra essentially a rebranded S21 Ultra?

WHO CARES? Samsung is allowed to call it whatever they want to call it. Since it is an international phone, maybe they should have called it the S22UN and made all happy.

Why are the note people happy, they are getting a note sized and looking phone with a S-pen. And if Samsung had come out with another note series, I have to think the SD card reader would have gone the same way as on the S-series...into oblivion. But we will never know.

Have to wonder, what's he stuffing into his mouth in the avatar? Rhetoric...

Like Apple doesn't literally release the same phone every year with a different number

Woah don't shoot the messenger, I didn't create this video. I posted this thread specifically because of the processor points he makes.

Also, my avatar is Action Bronson eating chicken wings on Hot Ones.

Only watched 5 minutes, but it's obvious he doesn't know what he's talking about on a lot of stuff.

That said, I do agree (and have previously said) that it's more of a Note 21 than an S22 Ultra. I really don't think it's worth the upgrade unless you're one of the people who loves or relies on the integrated S-pen... And if you are that person, Why would you have bought the S21 ultra anyway?

I definitely don't think so.

The S22U has an S-pen. That alone require's a substantial internal hardware design change. Adding a pen and retaining the 5,000mah battery I'd imagine wouldn't have been easy.

Then there's all the software that's included for the S-pen. A stack of things you can do with it and they have improved the latency as well from previous Notes, so it supposedly feels better and is faster to use, which is great. So from a hardware and software perspective, it has pretty big differences from the S21U.

I guess in a vacuum if you ignore the S-pen and pretend it doesn't exist, the experience between the S21U and S22U could be pretty similar. But to say it's a rebranded S21U I think is not accurate.

It's not a re-branded s21u it's a Note 22 without the name
Facts. In fact the S22 Ultra looks more like the Note 22 Ultra than it does the S21 especially from the front. I will say it's nice that they were able to keep the 100x zoom and 5000 mAh battery without it being as thick as the S20/S21 Ultra.

I think you meant to say the S22 Ultra essentially a rebranded Note 21 Ultra??

Like Danny says in his video, "Don't tell anyone... but I think this was suppose to be the Note 21 Ultra." (@ 2 Minute 45 sec mark)

They were smart to skip the Note 21 Ultra last year and keep the design as it is still as fresh looking at it was when it was released 2 years ago. Gives them more time to work on a complete refresh which still may not happen next year, but I wouldn't be upset. Design is fine for me. Care more about software and internals.

Samsung originally got rid of the SD card in 2015, including on the Note, because of the negatives it had on user experience. Now they got rid of the SD card again, I don't see it ever coming back. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not expecting it to return.

All of the software is on the S21U, too. Don't forget, while it lacks the hole in the bottom, the S21U is fully S-pen compatible.

Agree

All debate aside does it make a difference to anyone? Will it cause anyone to not order, cancel an order, jump off a roof, wrestle a grizzly bear?

I thought the S-pen software on the S21U was limited? Whereas the S22U has the full festure-set? If I'm wrong then yes, the software would be the same for the S-pen functions.

But a built in S-pen is a pretty significant design change. Calling it a rebrand doesn't make sense as it's not like a new chip or added extra storage and called it a day.

EDIT: Oh this is what I had read:

https://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s21_ultra-review-2219p4.php

"the Galaxy S21 Ultra supports the basic S-Pen functionality. The more advanced features we've seen on the Note20 and Tab S7 series will come with a software update once the Bluetooth S-Pen Pro launches later this year."

Ok so it had the basic functions at release but an update later on added more. Ok.

And how did they do that?? They basically took the digitizer and the S-Pen software from the Notes parts bin and added it to the S20U with it's usual spec updates to get you the S21U.

Because for at least a couple of generations while the two were being sold side by side, spec wise they were pretty much identical except for the digitizer and the S-Pen and S-Pen software and design language (shape and silo).

Samsung could have taken the design of the S21U after adding in S-Pen functionality and add a silo to it to conform to the design language of the rest of the line for the S22U. But it looks like they just took the Note 21U that was sitting on the shelf and slap on the latest processor, modem, etc., and go.

Because I personally have no doubt that there was a Note 21 Ultra in the pipeline, tooled, and ready for production last year waiting for the green light. And then at latest hour they shelved it in favor of putting their resources into the Fold and Flip. And it was easier to slap on a digitizer and add the software to the S-line to move the S-Pen from a "feature" to an "accessory" than to manage 3 premium lines.

I won't be surprised if we hear eventually someone confirm that the S22U is basically the N21U pulled from the shelf and re-badged to merge the two lines into one.

Like RETG said, does it make a difference to anyone? Will it cause anyone to not order, cancel an order, jump off a roof, wrestle a grizzly bear? No. But let's be real about where the S22U really came from. It's a re-badged N21U lol. :p

I think Samsung took the existing Note20U and slapped a different back for new cameras
