s3 charging port specificity

bought my S3 from Hongkong and now I in india . recently I have had charging issues with the phone upto a point that it does not charge anymore. I took it to customer care and they said since it is an overseas product it will tale about 2 months for them to order the part and replace the charging port. BTW I have confirmed it is the port that needs to be replaced.

now can anyone suggest if I should wait for the overseas part to come and fix or I can take it to a local shop who can fix it within an hour. I am afraid that one hour solution may screw my phone. are the charging port highly specific?

Any qualified shop can do it. Of course a shop doing shoddy work could mess up the phone

USB port should be standard.You can buy from ebay or Amazon.If You can't replace it Yourself,anyone Who repairs cell phones should have them.
