S3 Screen Stays on, screen timeout won't engage

Trying to get a little help with my S3, and wondering if my problems are isolated or if others have seen the same thing.

Lately (the last several months or so), my phone's screen will stay on indefinitely. Not all the time, just sometimes. But this is certain: 100% of the time when I receive a new text message, my screen will "come to life" and just stay on, for hours, until I discover it. Or if I miss a call, same thing. Even some apps will keep the screen on; I could be browsing a website or playing a game, then put the phone down as-is, and walk away for any arbitrary amount of time: when I come back the screen is still running, phone open, app running. This is very frustrating. And not very secure considering I have a locked pw'd screen which is therefore completely useless in these scenarios.

It also occurs when my phone has finished charging (to 100%), the screen will automatically turn on, so I turn my phone over when I go to bed. And here's some irony - when S3's "low battery" notification comes on at 16% battery life, it wakes up the screen and keeps my screen on until it drains out what little I had left. Marvelous.

Any ideas for what's going on? Tempted to go back to iPhone. Thanks in advance, appreciated.

I'm guessing that you've installed some app that's causing these problems, although some of the things that you described are very close to behavior that's set by system settings (ex. Settings -> Developer options -> Stay awake).

You could try booting into Safe mode and see if the problem persists.

Is there a little eye symbol up on the Status bar (near the Wi-Fi icon or mobile data icon) when this problem occurs?
