S4 to hdtv using usb storage

So i have a 1tb hard drive that i use to store videos and music and i can plug it into my samsung tv usb slot and play them back through the tv. Tried connecting my s4 to tv and it cant find the movies and music i have on the phone. Apart from gettng the hdmi to micro usb lead does any one have any ideas? Are my files in the wrong folder on the s4?
