Problem solved! Traded for a HTC One M8 and couldn't be happier! Took a huge loss but was worth it!
I got my Galaxy s5 the first day of the release.... about 2 weeks ago... My phone is starting to lag a lot and freeze.... I also noticed my camera is shutting off alone... My facebook freezes and I get a black screen for about 2-3 minutes.... I am just installing this update right now to see if it fixes the issue.....
Same problem here with my S5 in an OtterBox. Screen sometimes goes black and phone is completely unresponsive. All I see is my flashing blue message indicator light. As mentioned, this is very frustrating since removing the case to remove the battery is a real pita. :-\
* I went to Settings > About Device > Software Update and there was a 133MB update available so I'm hoping this update may contain a fix for the "locking up" issue... I'll report back in about a week or so.
Just went to Verizon to get a replacement phone. Enough was enough. I had to prove to them what the phone was doing. Check out my video. Phone goes haywire at 0:33. Starts entering random text at 0:40. Screen totally freezes up at 0:53. Good times. Samsung Galaxy S5 freaking out - YouTube
I think I found a primitive fix for this... When it freezes up on me I immediately hit the power off button and leave it off for 10 seconds. When I wake it back up with the power button it seems to work fine. Saves me from having to remove the battery and wait 10 minutes.
Yep. Goosed in Safe Mode also. Pressed the button, bottom buttons lit up, screen was blank. Eventually came on but screen had 'white noise' picture before Samsung boot logo appeared, then booted into Android. The 'white noise' or random reboot doesn't always happen, but the blank screen always does when it goes wrong. It's usually several times a day. This tells me it's the OS. A previous Factory Reset didn't fix it.
