S6 edge - black screen - no response

Hi,

I have a blue notification light flashing so I know its still powered on but the phone will not respond to any button presses.

I've tried resetting it using the power/home/vol up combination but still no response from the phone.

Any ideas?

The vol up, home, and power won't do anything, however after a couple tries, vol down, power will.

I had to do the power and volume down for 7 seconds for it get to the point of showing the charge icon at 55 percent. I still couldn't leave that until I hit the power button again and the phone immediately rebooted.

I had the SOD after updating on T-mobile to 5.1.1 last night (and not noticing battery improvements for my S6 Edge) I went to bed with the phone at 70 percent and woke up with my alarm NOT going off and then realizing the phone was in SOD. I tried the power button for 30 seconds, tried the power, volume up and home key, etc. tried plugging it in to the wall charger, the car charger and the computer and zilch. The computer wouldn't even recognize it as plugged in.

This thread helped get it rebooted tho but I'm unsure if I should replace the phone (if I can w/o a fee) or wait to see if it happens again.

For the record there are no custom ROMs, etc. I've not tinkered with the phone other than downloading and installing various common apps.

Yes, i've same problem when this morning, RESET the phone solved my problem.

Thank you! To my suprise my phone immediately rebooted after pressing vol down and power simultanously for like 2 seconds, I was afraid it would have been my screen that was broken inside since it broke on the outside about 2 weeks ago from out of nowhere ( didn't drop it or anything ). So thanks again!

i had the same issue where s6 edge was just showing the blue light nd on the curve was just showing time i tried with power key + volume up + home but it dint work out then i tried power + volume down + home nd it worked for me now my s6 edge its completly fine

I had same issue with T-mobile carrier. Got phone to reboot by holding power key and volume down button. BTW, T-mobile sucks. Called in for a replacement phone before I found this trick. They were going to "overnight" me a new phone.Trouble is they use only UPS, and it is now Thursday night. Since UPS does not work on weekends (can you imagine in this day of age a major package delivery service not working on weekends?) and order will not be processed until tomorrow (Friday) I cannot get my phone until Monday!
Nice going T-mobile. Ever hear of USPS or Fedex?
Someone is getting bribed at T-mobile. SHAME ON YOU!

Same issue with my S6 with 5.1.1 . was resting in desk and didn't woke up. not even responded do charge or leds and nothing!!!
tankfully, the restart combination down+pwr worked . almost believed it was dead...

Same happens to me. Overnight on the charger most frequently. I wake up and my notification light is on but nothing works. Vol+Lock button for 7+ seconds lets me choose to restart the phone. Its really annoying though because sometimes i miss alarms because of it.

Just have a same problem this morning like AC Question having problem.
THANKS to LeoRex advise.
AFTER press the following power button and down volume button together then the apps coming restart and back to normal again.
What is going on actually?

Getting the same issue but the reset is not working. Phone is only 3 days old. No modifications or custom roms. Left phone in car for five minutes came back and no screen. When I click the side button my screen flickers, not sure if that is the same?

I have the Galaxy S6 and had the same problem and took it to the TMobile and got a replacement. It just happened again. Screen black non responsive with green blinking light..volume down and power button worked!!

i also faced same problem for my mobile. i am totally scared for facing that problem. i have taken S6 just 15 days back and seeing totally unrespondable mobile in hand... i just search on google and found this forum. thank you all of you.

That Switch off key and volume up or down keys pressing together has worked.

Hey guys!

I've had my S6 for just under a month now, and got my first SOD. I was using my phone outside my house, went inside, and the screen is completely black, but the icons light up at the bottom. I realised that i could unlock my phone, turn the volume up and down, but nothing else, the screen remains black the hole time. When connected to the PC I found out that I could access my screenshots, which i had taken a couple by mistake while trying to reset my phone.

EDIT:
Calling my phone goes straight to voicemail.

So it sounds like the screen is screwed to me, but it was so random considering i was just using it before. The power + vol down doesnt work for me so i don't know what to do... Any suggestions?

Since this is the first page that shows up on this issue I'll write my experience here. Brand new S6 arrived yesterday. Yippee skippee! Wife spent evening and most of night setting it up, reloading contacts, apps, wallpapers, etc, Today, 24 hrs later, first experience with the Black Screen (SOD). Went online, checked several sites for advice. All said "Press Up volume/Power/Home keys." No joy. "Hold for seven seconds." No joy. "Face the North Star and recite ancient Indian prayer." No joy. Then someone in this forum, near end, said "Press Down volume/Power/Home keys." (Ancient Prayer optional) Joy!
Bottom line: This is Not Acceptable. Should not happen. Especially systematically. Will have to wait for OS fix, I guess.
Hope this helps. (Ancient Indian prayers are good for your soul anyway)

I had the same problem minutes ago. I googled it and found this post. Pressing down volume + power + home keys made a hard reset and sorted this problem.

Hi all, my Samsung galaxy 6edge went to sleep (a.k.a. sleep to death), as advised earlier on this blog- I've used below key and the phone restarted again. Then, I've reset the factory settings.

Press and hold the Power key and the Volume down key simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it.

I have a galaxy s6 with verizon. This happened to me today after I unplugged my phone from my car charger. Entire screen was black, had a notification LED in the corner. I must have accidentally pressed all the buttons wrong because the phone ended up doing a master reset and coming back on after I held them all together. Then I had to restore from a back up. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, quite annoying.

Please guys my samsung s6 edge was working fine, i just went to get my clear coat today and i collected my phone back , it was perfect. i got home slept woke up, check my phone, was still fine. I bought a samsung r7 speaker so i turned it on to install on my phone. i check my phone its blinking like a white or blue light and screen is dark, no response. I call the phone, call goes through but it isnt ringing or trigger the phone screen to wake but means service is still on phone. I tried all kinds of hard restart, all types i know multiple times, no fix. is there anything i can do, in the worst case scenario, how do i get to flash it if that seems to be the only fix. thanks
