Good Evening Peoples,

Recently I'v been having an issue on my S6 Edge where Google Maps just didn't manage to locate my phone through GPS alone, it always had to be assisted through 4G or WiFi which just made my maps not work at all at points because it couldn't locate me whatsoever. Now I recently reset my phone due to some battery issues which has fixed the battery problems perfectly but now my GPS is deaded.

Through GPS applications absolutely none of the entire 5 I downloaded could locate my phone through GPS. I reset my phone for a second time and again absolutely nothing. It's as if my GPS chip has died or something.

Can anyone assist me because it's worrying when I need to be able to use google maps in the near future.

Edit: Phone has detected 5+ satellites however is not using them, constant 0/5 (5 in view) (0 in use)

Thanks alot

"In view" means that the book says that 5 satellites should be overhead, not that the receiver has received any signal from them. (A GPS keeps an ephemeris [a list of dates, times and locations] for the satellites.) Try this:

Open the Phone, as if you were going to make a phone call and dial -
*#9090# -- Diagnostic Configuration (*#197328640# if that doesn't work)
Menu, select Key Input, enter Q
Menu, select Key Input, enter 0000
wait for the next menu. (It takes a while.)
UMTS->COMMON->NV REBUILD->NV REBUILD->SYSTEM->PROTOCOL->GPS->IMS
or, if you don't have UMTS:
UE SETTINGS & INFO->SETTING->SYSTEM->NV REBUILD->ALL

Restart the phone. It may take 30 seconds or so for the first fix.

If that doesn't work, the phone has to go in for repair.

Use GPS Status & Toolbox to see what's actually happening.

Hey Rukbat,

I dialed *#9090# and a 5 option menu appeared, I pressed more - key input and followed your instructions however upon entering Q + 0000 nothing happened even after waiting?

Other options were:

1) RAMDUMP
2) DM TRACE ITEM SEL
3) ATI PATH Change
4) AP,CP Interface
5) RmPC Log

:)

They must have changed it in the S5 (or in Lollipop - I'm still on KitKat on a Note 3). Try the S5 forums on XDA Forums for more help. There's some way to reset the GPS.

Hi,

I just spent an hour fiddling with settings and safe modes and diagnostic screens because my S6 would not lock onto GPS today and I nearly got terribly lost.

I just took off my new phone case, and it's immediately found a fix....:-[

Feeling pretty silly over here, I just thought I'd post so that future fools like me might think to take off their phone case too!

Edge 6+ and it was working fine until today with Google Maps only getting posn from Cel towers. Ihave the same GPS monitor APP and its not tracking ANY sats! I latter saw a msg on Google Maps saying watch the road, Beta Version??? 2/25/2016
