S7 alarm and timer issue - goes off, no sound

No problem with my Exynos S7. Is there a possibility this problem only appears on 820 versions.

I am having a similar issue with My Note 4. Never had the problem until just recently. I noticed my kitchen timer app was not making any alarm sound when timer ran down to Zero. Phone made one very short vibration but no sound. Do Not Disturb off but I had just started using the DND setting recently around the same time I started having this problem. I reinstalled the Timer app. Still no sound on this alarm. I tried installing other timer apps. None of them would make any sounds. My Alarm Clock Plus app is still working with the ring tone I set up. I have restarted my phone again and again. No timer alarms work anymore at all for a few weeks.

I had this issue the other morning with timely. What I did was set the alarm and when it went off I hit volume up. Seems the volume was all the way down somehow for alarms. Turned it up to max and its fine now. Not sure how it got turned down or where to even adjust it outside of when the alarm is going off.

Had the same issue with my S7 using the installed clock app and mine is unbranded. I'm gonna look for a 3rd party app.

Hey, so this morning I woke up nice and rested with the sun shining a bit too brightly - and realized I missed my alarm! I never sleep through alarms. So I tested it and set a timer, than another alarm - both went off without sound. I changed none of the settings, didn't mess with anything. I rebooted the phone and tested again, and everything seemed OK... but that is very, very troubling. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yes, I have, not sure why, though there was a recent "update" of os on Verizon.

In trying to fix my phone doing this, I went to the alarm and tried to change the sound for it and found that my clock app didn't have access to sounds, media, etc. After giving access I set an alarm to test and it went off fine (though quieter than I'd like).

I'm having the same issue on my Nexus 6p. Here's my experience:

When the issue mysteriously presents itself, my alarms don't have sound, my timers don't have sound, playing videos through my media app gives me an error claiming the app cannot play that file type, playing music doesn't work, YouTube videos don't have sound, my phone doesn't make the little blip noise when I lock and unlock it... Basically sound doesn't work on my phone. Period.

As a PC technician (but not an Android expert) I have, of course, instantly deduced that turning it off and on again fixes it. But it happens here and there, seemingly at random. I can always tell when my alarm won't work by listening for the blip sound when I lock my phone for the night.

I have a weird lingering feeling that this is somehow linked to Google Now's "Ok Google" detection. I think it happens as I use the voice detection more frequently. But I may be imagining correlation where there is none. It's hard to say since I have never directly seen what straight up cause.

Whatever the case, this is certainly not the fault of any single app, this looks to me like a bug in the OS.

I just updated to Nougat 7.1.1. No issues yet since the update. I saw nothing mentioning this issue in the patch notes, but I'm crossing my fingers that it got fixed somehow.

Same problem, phone is three days old. Update yesterday, this morning alarm and timers are silent. all sounds are stock, volumes are up, DND off.
WTF

I've had my S7 edge for five months, and now I'm having issues with the alarm. At times it works just fine, and other times the alarm sounds for a second then it goes silent. The alarm doesn't turn off, it just goes silent.

The reason I'm on this site right now is because my alarm didn't sound this morning. I reset the time just now and the alarm activates but without sound!!! This is worrisome. This is my 3rd Samsung Galaxy and its never happened before. I've had this S7 for about 6 months and use the alarm most mornings.

This has happened to me on about 5 separate occasions in the last month. I restart the phone and it works fine again (Moto G). But so worrying because I don't know when it will happen again next, andiod really need to fix this !

My girlfriend and I both have the same issue.

I have had My S7 edge for a year and it just did this for the first time the other morning. I woke up late, but not too late thank God, didn't get to shower but made it to work on time, lol.
I never rebooted it. I tested it over and over and it still would not sound, everything came up on the screen though. No problems with all the other sounds the phone does. So while messing with it I changed the ring for the alarm. Then it worked. And I only have factory sounds, no third party stuff. But I still don't trust it. Actually, I've often thought that it's kinda risky to just use your phone alarm and nothing else. I think I've missed a couple of phone calls lately too.

Found this on Yahoo! Tech site, not sure if any of their solutions might help

Issue: No alarm sound

There have been some reports of issues with alarms on the Galaxy S7 not making any sound. Some people have encountered this issue with third-party alarm apps, but others have had the same trouble with the default clock app. There are a couple of reasons it might happen.

Workaround:

  • If you’re using a third-party alarm app, then it might be having trouble with the Doze feature in Android. You should see a wee alarm icon in the status bar next to your signal strength icon when an alarm is set. If you don’t see the alarm icon, then it’s not going to work. You should try using the default clock app, updating your alarm app, or using another alarm app that does work with Doze.
  • A restart will temporarily fix the problem. Last thing before bed, hold down the Power button and tap Restart, then set your alarm.
  • It may be caused by open media apps like games or YouTube. Try tapping the Recent apps button and closing everything before bed.

Potential solutions:

  1. Take a look in Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume.
  2. You should also take a look at Settings > Do not disturb. If you are using it, then tap Allow exceptions and choose Alarms only or Custom and select your alarm app.
  3. It could be that your app is being optimized. Take a look in Settings > Battery and tap Details under App power saving then tap on your alarm app and choose Disabled so that it isn’t turned off to save power.
  4. If you’ve been gaming recently, then there’s a chance that it has to do with Game Tools. The floating red icon for Game Tools will pop up when you launch a game and the first option is to set No alerts during game. To test if this is causing your alarm problems, try turning it off via Settings > Advanced features > Games > Game Tools.

It happens on S6 as well. This problem started since the last software updates. There seems to be no solution to it. Try setting your timer to go off every hour. Sometimes it goes off sometimes it just went silent and the timer stopped at 0:00:00. This is very annoying and I couldn't find any solution to it.

I too have had this issue happen. Originally it happened with the stock Samsung clock. Worked fine for the first 6 months I had the S7, then woke up late for work. Was told to install a 3rd-party system (went with Timely) and hadnt had a problem until this past Tuesday. Woke up only because my Fitbit notified me of a calendar reminder. It showed the timer was going off, but there was no sound. After googling for results, I restarted my phone, but then yesterday I didn't get any notifications either. I do use Do Not Disturb and there wasn't any updates (that I am aware of). I checked my setting last night and noticed that the Custom DND showed Alarms as being greed out and in the off position. This morning I got notification of an appointment, but again no alarm sound. I restarted the phone, and checking my setting and saw that Alarms was still grayed out, but in the on position. Tried out an alarm, and it went off without an issue. The ONLY app that I downloaded recently was the Android Auto... Which has since been forced closed and not used. Not really sure if it was the Android Auto install, if Timely updated (without me realizing it), or what, but it was about this time last year that it stopped working.

I had an S5 that did this to me twice once on a work trip and I got stranded in Oklahoma. Verizon gave me a brand new iphone. I now have an S7 and probably wouldn't even try to use it as an alarm.

I have intermittently had the same problems. My do not disturb setting keeps changing itself. I have it set to custom (includes sound for the alarm) but when I check it later it has changed itself off of custom to silent. Any suggestions?
