Really, that's the only route if you are going to replace the handset more than a few times during it's life cycle. The better option is to just realize that you may have to replace it at full price if you need to, or have it repaired for about 50% of the price of the phone. Yes, it seems expensive. But, factor monthly insurance premiums + deductible and it's not as bad as the insurance companies want you to think it is. $700 is not as much as it used to be, either.

Really? What is it with people and hating cases? If I just spent $700 on a phone I want to do all I can to protect it. Screw not feeling the premium material back, or worrying about the added bulk.

Plus, I sell my old phones to help pay for new phones since i flip flop between 2 or 3 of them every year. A case keeps your phone in like new condition to help out its resale value. For that reason, even though I own the most durable smartphone in the world, the droid turbo 2, I still keep it in a case.

Maybe they can look for textured leather protective cases or something.

Personally I don't mind cases since I get phones for the specs not the external looks.

Wait, I think I'm finally getting it. "Premium materials" doesn't mean better in terms of durability. Well now it's making sense. "Premium" just means something "higher end" than good ol' plastic! Just like my $200 pair of shoes doesn't mean their more comfortable (and they are NOT btw) they just look better :)

Feel also contributes sometimes. Cool aluminum feels so much better than plastic on an electronic device. Dents faster though.

Nokia once has a bright idea of making a steel and titanium body phone with a saphhire menu/main button. Basically that's one tough phone with premium materials. It costed as much as 2 iPhone 6S do now.

I still maintain that the phone I've owned with the best material was my black Nexus 5 -- yep, the one people panned as feeling 'cheap'. OK, it wasn't the most fancy suit, but it was extremely grippy and held up to abuse with nary a scratch, even an episode where I dropped it and inadvertently kicked it a good 10 yards across the floor at a local Target. It was the last phone I owned that never saw a case... didn't really need one.

Now everyone has moved on to aluminum and glass... casting aside plastics... which is a shame because those plastics are FAR better suited to the task.

I always loved the matte soft touch phones. Felt more durable. Glass inherently feels fragile. I'm going without a case because none of them feel as good as naked. I always get insurance just in case. I'm always worried about an incident that damages the phone but doesn't warrant a replacement.

Last night I was texting and dropped my phone between like 4-6 inches onto my nightstand. Heart skipped a beat.

Prying off a hard plastic snap on case shouldn't stress the frame of the phone too much should it

So aside from glass shattering the body itself is pretty sturdy. Don't have to worry about flexing and bending. Or any other frame related concerns

I'm not certain which series of aluminum was used but I do know it was beefed up quite a bit from last year's model. It would take quite a bit of force to bend the S7 from what I've seen.

Back to rocking no case. These cases are so tight though that i feel like I'm more likely to damage the phone by taking them off and installing them than I am by dropping it

I just got a tiny crack/scratch on the fingerscanner button, no idea where from, phone was sitting in my pocket/hand whole day o.o..

That sucks. So far no home button issues.
