Galaxy S7 Edge:

Water Resistant IP68
Wireless charging
Samsung Pay
SD 820 + 4GB RAM
Super AMOLED display
5.5 inches (~76.1% screen-to-body ratio)
3600 mAh battery (sealed)
Dual Pixel 12MP Camera (low light + fast focus)
Micro USB 2.0
All glass build with curved screen

LG G6:

Water Resistant IP68
Wireless charging
Android Pay
SD 821 + 4GB RAM
IPS LCD display (18:9 Aspect Ratio)
5.7 inches (~78.6% screen-to-body ratio)
3300 mAh battery (sealed)
Dual Cameras 13MP (regular + wide angle)
USB C 2.0
All glass build

Is it worth the upgrade? Seems like a small upgrade from a phone that's a year old. What do you think?

S7E curved screen
S7E pent. screen (effectively lower res. )

G6 flat screen.

Yes. :p

Anyway it's up yo each person. If it doesn't work for you or make sense to you, then don't. :)

It would depend on why you are upgrading. If you are looking at specs alone and you keep your devices for a while, then probably not. You would probably be better served by waiting for the S8 and the 835.

If you are looking to change it up a bit, then yes. The experience on an LG is different than Samsung and it's a nice change of pace. I found that even with the same processor (820), the LG performance was better than my S7E and Note 7 for the things that matter to me. YMMV of course.

The performance variables these days come down to software rather than hardware IMO. On paper one high end SoC outperforms another by X, but in the real world does it make a noticeable difference? Comparing a Snapdragon 400 series to an 800 series of course will, but an 821 to an 835? I doubt it. Both are fast.

Go for a phone that suits you and has the features you are interested in. For me, that feature is the 5.7" 2x1 display in a more manageable form factor. Couple that with a capable camera, and I'm set.

Well I sold my s7 edge for Axon 7 limited edition 128gb with 6gb ram... And we'll I wanted a flat screen...
Now I was waiting for s8 s8+ and G6 since Nokia 8 will only come by June...
Now seeing s8 pics.. I find the phone ugly and with edge screen difficult to hold... Now to me G6 looks more appealing to me than s8 duos... Let's wait and watch price point
Thou luckily in India G6 will be 64gb version with audio dac and all

I think the G6 is still a worthy competitor, but I certainly see what you're saying. I guess it all comes down to one's specific needs, what brand of Android OS they're comfortable with, etc. LG's skin is cool but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea! I'd like to get my hands on a G6 to see how it runs!

The flat screen is a massive feature for many though.
I think it's more of a design decision. The Samsung curved screen was cool when introduced. Now to me it just makes the phone hard to hold and very expensive to repair without delivering substantial value in return. This is of course a personal opinion, YMMV.

Curved screen also makes cases and screen protectors difficult to find. And the curved screen makes phone more delicate and easy to break, a drop on the curved part usualy means bad news. Although the all glass on the G6 will make breakage easier to.

I've had a few Samsung notes and S series. They've always had slow downs. They're great phones buti hate lag. I had one slow down on my G5 And that was because I was rushing to use it after I restarted it.

I can't stand the glass back design. Bad enough that a phone's screen can break. Now a fall can break the front and back.

We need to get away from this notion that phones always have to be big upgrades for someone who bought a device the year before.

If you have an S7 Edge? No, the G6 isn't a worthwhile upgrade. But neither is the S8 likely to be. In both cases, you're getting a slightly faster, slightly more feature-laden phone whose biggest difference is likely to be that larger screen. Now if you really have to have a large display ASAP, sure, but I would rather save my money for the G7/S9 and really notice the difference.

The G6 is more for the person whose contract or instalment plan is running out, and they're less concerned with having the absolute latest than having a meaningful improvement over their old phone. In that sense, LG is doing just fine!

To answer your thread title, no.

Only thing objectively better on the S7E in your specs is the battery. Everything else is subjective.

SD821 is better than 820.

I think there is a phone out from Huawei that bests the G6 and Pixel in hardware.

If you don't want a curved screen your best overall choices for the next few months boil down to this, regular S7, Pixel, or iPhone 7.

I'm personally voting against Samsung with my wallet because that's the only way they will kill curved screens and improve their software.

If I don't like the LG I will probably get a Pixel or a refrurb Note 5.

I have both phones. I love the G series on lg. not the 5, but i had the lg g3 until just last month. never gave me issues and the lg skin is close to stock Android. but i got the galaxy s7 edge for my other line, and i like the extra features, but i am a guy who likes fluidity and speed. so i have been trying to like the gakaxy more, but, numbers aside, my g6 never has lag issues like the edge does, the screen is more whiter(?) than the s7, the picture abd video quality is HUGELY better on the g6. The battery life is sooo much better on my g6. The galaxy has more accessories but the wide angle and fluidity is better on the g6. the screen resolution is also more crispier on my g6. from the screen off the lg will turn on at the mere touch of finger id, while on the galaxy u have to turn the screen on, which isnt that big of a deal but when your used to it and then use the galaxy its annoying ti not have it. lgs KNOCK ON feature is great as well. Anyway like i said i TRIED to like the galaxy better but its just no where near as good.

I would prefer the G6, as I am not a fan of Samsung's UI and I have used an LG phone before and loved the experience. But like others have said, to each their own! Some will want to stick with Samsung for sure, while others will opt for the G6. Plus, if you compare the G6 to its predecessor, the G5 (I know that wasn't the question posed in this thread, though), then it would certainly be a great and worthwhile, and more noticeable, upgrade, IMO.

Had both.. Believe me the G6 floors the s7 edge by a considerable margin, I sold it to get my G6. No regrets. Not one. Ever.

My wife has the S7. She can't stand the slow downs. I haven't had a significant slow down on my G6 yet other than when an app went wonky. Love my G6
