While it's a step in the right direction, the so called (Qi) wireless charging is just a play on words in it's current state. You still have to establish semi-contact with a pad for the inductive electrical power transfer to occur. There are much better (more efficient) resonant systems in the works that promise to deliver Power over Wi-Fi zones.
I agree...right now the average consumer you would be much better served using the quick charge 3.0 with USB-C.
I've been pretty much the same thing when it comes to wireless charging. As far as I'm concerned wireless charging doesn't exist yet.
