S7Edge on Cricket Wireless (AT&T Branded Phone)

Here's a question......will my phone ever be forced to update? I'd actually prefer it not to be, but it should still operate as normal, right? I'm going to gift my phone to my daughter when the S8+ is available to purchase, but unless I stick an active AT&T Sim (or GoPhone Sim) into my device, I should be ok I think.

Can anyone confirm or deny this that may know more?

I have an AT&T branded edge on cricket and it hasn't been updated since November. I check for 7.0 but don't think it'll get it unless I put an AT&T Sim card in.

I can confirm that. A colleague wanted to update to 7.0 so he removed his Cricket SIM card and put an active AT&T one in so the update would come through.

That said, the update may come through eventually anyway. But will the update be forced to install? I don't know. I always install updates when they come through; I never tried ignoring them.

Can I take it to a Samsung location in Best Buy and at least get the security updates?
