s8 and nougat heads up notifications

thats ok and fine if you dont want a notification at all from the app but thats not what i need, i still want the notification but just with some privacy :(

Hi there. I understand the issue that ur having, I'm having it with WhatsApp and Viber on my s8. Have you found a solution?

no solution yet sorry, seems not many people are too bothered about it ? dont know why not as it drives me crazy.

Am I the only one that has this annoying problem? It's making me want to send my phone back, you can't have any privacy while your phones on, that is so wrong, what are Samsung thinking about surely people don't want other people seeing their messages all the time?

The ADB thing works for Samsung S8+

adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0

The pop up "preview" notifications are app specific. You have to go into the app's setting and turn it off manually. As far as I know, the only apps that have pop up notifications are messaging apps like textra, facebook messenger, kakao talk, default messaging app, etc. Hope this helps.

I checked the settings on Pixel XL, a Nexus P6 and a Sony Android and it look on all of them the same. Seems to be the basic setting provided by Android. In the meanwhile i changed back to my old Huawei Mate 9 were i have much more detailed possibilities for these settings (shown in my previous post).
Yesterday i have read the news about Android O which will be launched in Q3/2017. One topic is notification channels:
https://developer.android.com/preview/features/notification-channels.html

I'm having the same problem. I was searching for a solution everywhere before I found this thread. Anyone found a solution yet ? It seems that Samsung has given more options to customize the notifications in the lock screen rather than notifications when the screen is not locked.

If I disable pop up display the only option is to to stop all, so no pop up no alert no sound and no vibration, you have to have everything or nothing, they did the same on s7 it's ridiculous but some clever person found a way around it with a adb program but it doesn't work on s8

Hi, could you please ellaborate or provide a link to this adb discussion? I still have my s7

Am I missing something? I went into the whatsapp menu and found this.

I installed Shortcutter on mine. It gives you the option to add a ton of toggles to the drop down settings, one of which is for heads up notifications. It does require you enter one command in adb, but setup walls you through it and its really easy. It also give you the option to turn on immersive mode all the time, hiding your status bar and/or navigation keys, which is also nice.

I have zero popups in any screen. I go through all my apps and block all notifications from each of them. In my S6, S7 or S8....

but also no acoustic notification. What we want to have is no popup but an acoustical notification.

this sounds like an issue with specific apps, in the stock messaging app you can turn off the pop up notifications. reach out to Whatsapp is my advise.

It isn't. It's an issue with notification granularity. By default, Android 7.0 only gives you the option to silence the notification entirely. What others want, including myself, is the ability to stop a notification from "peeking" but still have it provide an alert via sound/vibration. This is fully possible in stock Android through the System UI tuner. It doesn't appear that Samsung has enabled this functionality on the S8, which is annoying.

Solution found. Under settings go to notifications. Click advanced on the top right. Under each app u can select whether or not u want a notification on locked screen or whether or not u want a preview

That prevents an app notification on the lock screen but that is a separate issue from "peeking". If your phone is unlocked and you are looking at it you will see a notification flash from the top of the phone. Turning off notifications on lock screen will not prevent peeking aka heads up notifications.
