UPDATE: This is for an S8. First title said S7 my mistake. I updated to S8 but it says S9. wrong. 2 mistakes in one sentence?!?!? bad! Can moderators move it to S8 forum?

On pages with white backgrounds, I can see fient impressions of some app(s?) icons. I can recognize a speaker icon, magnifying search and a couple of others down the right side. Across the bottom I see a leftover Google Maps bar with "x 33 minutes", etc. Other than Google Maps, I don't recognize any particular app that the other icons represent. All the icons are the same reddish-orangey color.

This phone is a little less than 2 years old. Reboot no help. I sure hope the display isn't going south after such a short time. I typically buy top-of-the-line hardware so it will last many years. are those days over?

I took a screenshot, but the impressions didn't show up.

That's called screen burn-in. It's caused by always keeping the screen brightness up and keeping the screen on for long periods of time running nothing but the launcher. You can look for "burn in" apps in Play and see if one of them for AMOLED screens helps, but it's a pretty permanent condition.

Interesting... Does that mean I'm not playing enough games? :)

My timeout is set to 5 minutes. Is that too long? It seemed to me that as long as I have no battery issues, may as well keep it long. who knew. I keep battery power-saving mode on MID most of the time.

Also, I was browsing SETTINGS->DISPLAY->SCREEN MODE and saw there are 4 choices: adaptive, AMOLED cinema, AMOLED photo and Basic. It had been on adaptive. I changed it to Basic today I have no idea what those mean and why I would choose one over the other. They should have little "i" pop-ups next to each one.

Can you shed any light on if those choices affect burn-in?

5 minutes is actually pretty long. I wouldn't let the screen stay on while idle for more than about a minute or so.
