safe mode

Yesterday morning my phone started up in safe mode. In the bottom left corner of the screen it said safe mode. I swithced to a few different screens but safe mode remained. The background had changed to one that was different than what I was using. I thought maybe ICS was delivered, but found no other reason to believe it had. I finally pulled the battery and had to manually reset to backround I was using before. Seems to be working fine now. Anyone seen this before?
