Hey guys,

what is your best procedure for backing up and restoring apps, data, settings, call history, wifi settings, SMS/MMS, vpn settings, etc. while upgrading ROMs or totally wiping the phone and switching from one custom ROM to a different one?

Do you use HTC sync? cloud? HTC backup app? Titanium? adb backup command? copying files directly to PC?

I am a newbie so I will appreciate if you can elaborate, what tools to use to backup/restore all things in the phone

thanks

In this thread, @ohyeahar mentioned the following procedure:
Long-time users of TB will know that restoring system data is almost taboo.

In fact, even restoring user app data is sometimes problematic. Seems to mess up push notifications for the app your trying to restore data for. As such, I try not to restore data at all.

My preferred backup/restore process when switching ROMs:
Backup all user app&data
Create recovery flashable zip of the backed up app only
Backup Calls list, SMS, and Wifi APs to XML files.
Nandroid
Clear data/cache
Flash ROM (& gapps if required)
Reboot
Go through initial setup after boot
Reboot to recovery
Flash the zip created by TB
Device reboots automatically
Restore Calls list, SMS, and Wifi APs from XML files.

do you agree with this procedure?
how to create recovery flashable zip file?
how to back up sms, wifi aps, to XML?
