Samsung Calendar and Gmail Calendar Notifications?

Hello all, I use the Samsung Calendar application exclusively which is connected to my work gmail account. I find it extremely annoying that I get calendar notifications from BOTH calendar applications. I have gone into the general settings in the gmail calendar app and disabled notifications, only to find out that upon exiting the app, they notifications reset to the default "on."

I was wondering if I might be missing something here, why am I getting notifications from both apps?
