Samsung Epic 4G Lag Fix: RFS to EXT4 for Froyo DK28

I went from Quantum v2.5 Ext4 to Quantum v2.7 Ext 4 (edify) i think. Do I have to go through the whole process again or do I just update clockwork (and how do you update clockwork) and flash ROM?

What I did was try to update clockwork via ROM manager. Somehow I booted into clockwork and it said v2.5.1.0 then it said v2.5.1.2 and finally it said v3.0.0.2 but not v3.0.0.5.

I formatted and cleared cache and loaded ROM. It seems to work. On "about" it shows v2.7.0 and 2.6.32.9 kernel. How do I know if it has edify? I assume it does.

If you shutdown and try to boot into ClockWork (volume down+camera+power) where does it take you? What version is it? CWM3.0.0.5 should have the orange on black theme.

If your showing v.2.7.0 then you should be okay because I believe you need CWM3.0.0.5 installed to be on that version which would give you the Edify script too.

I haven't tried it personally on Quantum, but it has worked for me on other ROMs. That will give you free WiFi tethering in ad-hoc mode (to connect to computers, not to something like an iPod Touch).

i installed it just fine. I shouldnt have to worry about any data charges from sprint right? :p

I got the EXT4 filesystem using an earlier method, and have Clockwork v2.5.1.2 (after booting into v2.5.1.0, then rebooting into v2.5.1.2).

How can I upgrade to the Clockwork v3.x.x.x? Do I need to do anything else to update my EXT4 fs?

yes, that's why I saw it's weird. I power down and then hold volume down+camera+power and I go into 2.5.1.0. Then i go to advanced and hit "reboot recovery" and now I am in v3.0.0.2 (not 3.0.0.5), although it is an orange and black theme. Odd!

Yes I did some reading about what your going threw on XDA forums. I think it was in the Quantum or it was in the CWM3.0.0.5 thread. Describing the same exact deal...

I think the best route is what Ragnarokx said, takes about 30-45 minutes... Odin back to stock and run back threw the steps and get a good install..

interesting. do you think I do not have edify? I runs 1615 on Quadrant and it seems it loads everything fine with the "about" area listing things correctly.

The Clockwork with orange text is the one that can flash using Edify scripts. I don't know why you have so many versions of Clockwork though.

If it works for you then that's good. If you had v3.0.0.5 you would be able to boot directly into that version of Clockwork without having to do the Reboot Recovery, but not a big deal I suppose.

Don't quote me here but I think the 3.0.0.2 is some left behind stuff from when they were building v3.0.0.5. It does exists and is being used on the Evo and Droids.

What I did was go to ROM manager and click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and select Samsung Epic. it downloads the file but I have no clue what it does with it. So when i reboot it starts off in 2.5.1.0 until i do advanced/reboot clockwork and then it loads 3.0.0.2

That explains it. If you use the .bat file at the beginning of this thread it installs v3.0.0.5 - ROM Manager is using an older version.

Help

Ok I've followed the instruction to a tee...I think. everything is fine until I go into CWM and then my phones loads a bunch of files. I don't know if it's converting the files now or what, but after i have orange letters with black background. When i reboot, it just goes to the black screen with white Samsung and will just hang there. It basically brinks the phone and I have have to use odin to flash back to stock. This has happened everytime and I tried about 4-5 times. What am I doing wrong. I really wanted to try the viper rom but I'm getting tried of wiping my phone. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

Okay lets run down the list real quick.

1.) Started at Eclair and either A.) update.zip or Odin to Froyo DK28
2.) Downloaded the OneClockRootCWM3.zip and followed the installation steps
3.) It reboots and does a series of installs & backups and then you should be in ClockWorkMod 3.0.0.5 (orange and black)
4.) Flashed your ROM of choice (Must be one that says EXT4/Edify/CWM3.0.0.5 compliant)

Any other details, let us know...
