Samsung Epic 4G Lag Fix: RFS to EXT4 for Froyo DK28

i used the new procedure and flashed the midnight rom and now my gps wont lock :/ any help would be appreciateddssss :D

im learning as i go. bare with me guys. imm so intrigued in this stuff.

so far so good - one question

This forum is awesome. Thanks to all who post here for the guidance.

Now that I've gone through the whole procedure which seems to have worked, I only see some of my purchased apps in the market rather than all of my downloaded apps. I also see my backed up apps in Titanium backup with lines through them.

Is it generally ok to restore apps from Titanium backup after flashing a ROM or does this cause problems? Should I reinstall from the market rather than restoring?

Thanks again

If you backed up on a stock/unmodified system and are planning to restore with TB on a custom ROM, yes - that can cause problems. I would reinstall from the Market this time.

When going from ROM to ROM, it's usually ok to restore with TB. If you want to be extra safe, only restore apps (not apps+data).

if i ever wanted to re-flash back to stock Eclair, even with this new file system thingy, would I just use Odin as normal?

Yes.. Odin back to stock.. Everything will be removed and restored to factory.
[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)
long story short. im basically stuck at stock eclair, well at least to my knowledge. :/

i flashed froyo, without at first locking my gps. - first mistake
but before i knew, i went on to ext4, then midnightrom, thennnnn realizing i had no gps. :/

took your advice, did procedure one, and have been stuck all night since then. i cant get into clockwork from eclair...nor update.zip dk28 using the down+cam+pwr soo...i mean, im lost fellas. i dug my hand too far into the candy jar. now its all sticky :<

help :l plezz?

Are you currently at factory stock Eclair after using Odin? If so then what do you want to do and we can help get you there.

yes, after using odin. now i came to the point where i want froyo and a working gps. but i think since now i ran the bat to have ext4, froyo wont update from my sd card at all. when im in the android system recovery, and apply the update i get

e:failed to verify whole-file signature
e:signature verification failed
installation aborted

:/

Having an issue with browser downloads killing the browser in the quantum rom. I read here: Issue 13 - quantum-rom - Browser Download - Project Hosting on Google Code

that it's a known issue, and someone was able to get around it by reinstalling the browser plugin. Anyone able to help a noob out on how to do this? I'm unable to locate the specific plugin, nor how to reinstall. I'm guessing the latter is done with Clockwork.

What version of Quantum are you using? That link refers to v2.1.0, and I believe Quantum is up to v2.7.0.

I quick fix for this would be downloading the Miren Browser from the Market. I use it for all my downloads - it even downloads from sites that the stock browser won't.

If I were you I would open Google Maps and get a GPS lock (to minimize potential GPS problems in Froyo), use Odin to flash Froyo, and then run the EXT4 .bat file again to get root/Clockwork/EXT4. This will ensure a nice, easy, clean install.

Miren works for me, although I do like the standard browser for regular browsing more, this definitely helps a lot.

Your assumptions are correct, I'm using the latest from the sources you listed in the OP.

Hello all I have a question regarding EXT4 & CWM3- If I upgrade to EXT4, and for some reason need to go back to RFS, is there an alternate to going thru Odin? I saw the directions and although many have stated that it is simple, I have a fear that I will miss a step or something? Can I reset/wipe and flash DI18 then DK28 to get back to RFS?

Regarding CWM3.0+, I'm currently on 2.5... and the only App that I'm concerned regarding the compatible zip files is SprintNav. Is there a zip file for SprintNav for CWM3+? Is there a link to find out what other Apps have CWM3 compatibility?

Thanks.

You would have to Odin back to either stock Eclair or stock Froyo. Either way you have to Odin back to restore the RFS filesystem/Amend script. Simply wipe/factory restore will not reset the filesystem and scripting.

As far as the CWM3 compatible themes/add on's..

Also ptfdmedic (dev of midNIGHT ROM) has a full list of CWM3 themes/add on's available

Quick (stupid) question. I rooted using this method and installed Bonsai4All 1.1.3 through CW3 and then installed Frozen Emotionless Beast theme to it.

Say I want to try a different ROM, how do I change? Is it the same as installing? Will i lose the theme, or have to reinstall it?

I am assuming I copy the ROM I want to the root of my SD card, boot into CW3 wipe data/dvalik and then click install from SD and away I go.

Thanks for the help.

You're correct - to change ROMs just flash the ROM zip in CWM3. You will have to flash your theme again as all the theme files will be overwritten by your new ROM.

getting a little frustrated, i've been trying to flash ROMs but nothing works besides quantum 2.7, and midNIGHT. I whipe every time before trying to install, but I always get error at line "x" and installation aborted i follow the forums instructions. I have a few restore saved on a separate SD. I bricked my phone a few times, but been able to save it=].
Do you have any idea on why this could be? I've been on a few sites, following up on the exact errors and what not, but the suggestions don't seem to help me out. I really like quantum, I just want to dance with others ladies.

Not all ROMs can be flashed with ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.X - what other ROMs were you trying to install?
