Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

I've had both the GS4 (for 3-4 months) and the Note 3 (for about three weeks now) and I really do prefer the Note 3. I do like the larger screen but I really think I like the battery more than I do the screen. I would be around 20% or so after an average work day with the GS4 but now I still have around 50% charge left after the day with the Note 3. It is a large phone but it's not so large that it is hard to hold on to or use.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

I agree. This is the biggest mistake they made with the S4.

Palm Treo line > BlackBerry line > Samsung Galaxy S line > NOW the awesome & powerful Samsung Galaxy Note 3! 😆📱😆

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Nope. The S4 only has 16GB of memory, and AFAIK there was never any word on whether we'd actually see a 32GB version. I really wanted the larger amount of memory, so I'm glad I got the Note 3. The device is on the large side, but I don't find it too difficult to use and it's large enough that I don't really have much desire for a tablet anymore.

The S4 is nice but I love the Note 3. Yes, one handed operation is difficult but I've adjusted. I won't be switching unless the Note 4 or 5 comes out. :-)

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Yes, because sometimes I want less processing power, less battery life, less screen size, less internal memory, less RAM, and less S-pen....... /sarcasm

OK, I see your point and it's valid, but...

1. Sure the N3 has better specs, it came out 6 months later than the S4

2. For some, the size of the N3 is prohibitive. I mean, I could just carry around my 17" laptop with me that has even more processing power, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space...but obviously that isn't very practical. Yeah, that's a lot different than comparing the N3 to the S4 in terms of size, but still, it's a very important factor when considering a device you're going to be carrying around with you virtually everywhere.

3. Even despite the fact that doesn't fully measure up to the N3 in terms of specs, the S4 is still a great device that performs quite well and on still on the high end of the spectrum of current devices.

4. Is battery life that much better? (serious question). I usually get anywhere from 24 to 36 hours on my S4 between charges, sometimes a full 48 if I'm exclusively on wifi, generally with 4~5 hours screen time, depending on what I'm doing. I would have suspected that even with a larger battery, the increased screen size would make it difficult for the Note3 to really be that much better in this dept.

There is a 32GB version, and has been for a while. I'm not sure if all carriers sell it, but that's a separate issue.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

I went to the store today and checked out an S4 again. Yes...Even the S4 deemed small now. I think I will keep the Note 3 after all. Today was the end of my 14 day period with At&t. I think part of my problem was that I had a cheap case on it that I got from eBay. The case added too much bulk. I want to get a good quality bumper case so that I can reduce bulk. The phone is surprisingly thin and more manageable without the crappy case I bought.

I'd also recommend the Spigen slim case. I have one on my Note 3. It barely adds any bulk.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

I love my N3 and only thing I miss from the S4 is the camera. In my opinion it took better photos.

Absolutely not. I love the Note 3 versus the S4.

If you're making Phone calls with a 6.7" phone you have issues

Q10, HTC One, Nexus 7, Moto X
So people with big hands have issues because they don't want a tiny phone?

The larger size is not really a factor after a few days of getting used to the phone. That was actually one of my biggest concerns going into my decision. I didn't come from a previous note device so it's a non factor at this point.

I opted for just a bumper and a tempered glass screen shield - keeps things safe and minimizes the bulk:

I need to brush up on my law knowledge. I didn't know that walking and using your phone was not permitted.

Salix,
Sending this while swiping one handed walking though Meijer with groceries in my other hand

It should be or this can happen to you!!! Lol!!!

Oh and by the way No!!! Love my Gnote3!!!

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

I just got the note 3. I don't mind android at all. I wanted a larger screen than the tiny screen on the iPhone 5 I had. I'm thinking the Note is a little too big. I like the big screen but it's hard to operate the phone one-handed. Kind of wishing I went with the S4 instead. Anyone else?

The other way around here.. I first had a S4, back in May..However, after hearing the more knowledge users screaming for the 32gb S4, and since Verizon and ATT had the 32gb version,(I am with tmobile and not leaving), I returned the S4 and waited.. 1 month, 2 month, 3 month,4 months went by and no 32 gb from Tmobile. In Oct, the mighty Note 3 made it presence. I had not heard or read about the Note 3, because I had tunnel vision on the S4. IMO, the S4 was the chit. No need to look at anything else. Sheesh, I read the specs on the Note 3, and she started with 32gb.. I jumped right on the Note 3. The Note 3 is an S4 on steroids..My wife has an S4..Like I said, the S4 is good, no, it is great, and the Note 3 just happens to be greater.. Both great phones... but, the Note 3 raises the already high bar that the S4 made, even higher.. :D

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Yes the N3 is massive and the mega is just a whole new category of ridiculous.

Rewind two years and people said the same thing about the Galaxy SII and the original Note.

4. Is battery life that much better? (serious question). Taking into account the differences in how I use my S4 and the Note 3, I would say that the battery life is noticeably better on the Note 3.

Do you really use your phone for more than 5 hours in one day? I know I don't. I usually get 2 days and 5-6 hours of screen time so about 2-3 hours each day, and I think that's still a lot.

True but at some point a line has to be drawn. By that logic in 2 years people will be carrying around a 8 plus inch smartphone.

In that case, the fashion industry had better get to work on designing clothes with bigger pockets.
