Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

I just got the note 3. I don't mind android at all. I wanted a larger screen than the tiny screen on the iPhone 5 I had. I'm thinking the Note is a little too big. I like the big screen but it's hard to operate the phone one-handed. Kind of wishing I went with the S4 instead. Anyone else?

Have you turned on one handed operation?

The Note series isn't for everyone. Some buy it for the S-Pen functionality while others never touch the S-Pen and by it purely for the screen real estate. There are others who need neither and prefer a device that they can handle in one hand, like my daughter for whom I bought the S4. If you are in neither of the above descriptions, the S4 is probably better for you.

Give it a day or two. You'll get used to the size really quickly, at least I did. Big, yes, but I can still manipulate it well one handed and I have medium sized hands. I place my pinky finger along the bottom by the charging port and it balances well one handed (especially with the cord in). For any substantial amount of use you'll need two hands, but I've found that to be the case with even much smaller devices. I came to the Note 3 from an HTC One and after a week (before selling the One), I found the One to feel too small (adjusted that quickly) where I originally thought it was huge too. My old iPhone 4 which my wife now uses feels absolutely tiny, I struggle to use it!

I've had a bunch of mobile devices the past two years, I kind of went on a buying/selling spree. I can easily say the Note 3 is the best out of all of them, but of course, everyone has their opinion. Four people in my office have the S4, one has the S4 active and another a Nexus 5. Having played a bit with all of them it reaffirms my decision. I love the additional screen size, improved display (brighter outside), features and S-Pen! I don't see myself switching again until well, probably the Note 4. :)

As previously mentioned, there is 1 hand operation, and you can minimize the keyboard to a manageable size by holding the microphone key next to the space bar. I don't have huge hands and thought is use these features, but I haven't at all, I've really come to love the size and don't think I could go with anything smaller.

One of those cases where size DOES matter. While the N3 is tough to put in a pocket, or even anywhere in a car in the front area, it's a small price for me to pay, considering everything else it does for me. I wouldn't go to an S4. I wouldn't go up in size, but not going back down either. I came from a Z10. iPhones seem puny to me now as well.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Dharma, I can relate to your situation, coming from an iPhone 5, I originally wanted to buy the LG G2. This phone was just the right size and I loved the screen on that device. While browsing at the Verizon store, I picked up the Note 3 and fell instantly in love with it, so I decided to get this phone instead. I have no regrets! The Note 3; although, does feel large at times, is very versatile. You'll soon get comfortable with the size, but you'll find yourself in situations where the s pen, multi-tasking screens, and large viewing really comes in handy. I say give it a week. You'll get to use the screen size. Gl and enjoy your new phone.

No, I traded my S4 for my Note 3 and didn't look back.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Nope. The S4 only has 16GB of memory, and AFAIK there was never any word on whether we'd actually see a 32GB version. I really wanted the larger amount of memory, so I'm glad I got the Note 3. The device is on the large side, but I don't find it too difficult to use and it's large enough that I don't really have much desire for a tablet anymore.

I had an S4 w/32 GB (ATT version). Good phone but no S-pen. Soooooo happy I switched from iPhone 5 to S4 to Note 3.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

I find most people,, not all,, who need to operate the device one handed probably are do things they should not be doing like driving and using, or walking and using. Again, not everyone but still. Just an observation.

I need to brush up on my law knowledge. I didn't know that walking and using your phone was not permitted.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Not I. I switched from the iPhone 5 to the S4 when that released. I only kept the S4 a few days then switched back to my iPhone. I then switched to the Note 3 and couldn't be happier. The S4 was a good phone but end the end it didn't feel like much of a upgrade to leave the iPhone especially with he 16gb version I had. Then I switched to the Note 3 and this phone is a beast as others say. The phone took a few days to truly get used to the size of it but now that I'm used to it I will not switch to a different device. The screen real estate, the S Pen, the processor and memory are huge for me. I love this device more than any other I have had and I have had a lot of phones. Never been happier.

Best of luck with your decision.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

Yes, because sometimes I want less processing power, less battery life, less screen size, less internal memory, less RAM, and less S-pen....... /sarcasm

Was the 32GB S4 an AT&T exclusive? Because I'm on Sprint and AFAIK they only had the 16GB version.

Re: Anyone else wish they bought the galaxy S4 instead?

My wife uses the S4 and I use the Note 3. So no, I don't wish I had bought the S4 over the Note 3. I will say that the 4.3 update to the S4 (Sprint) has made the S4 even more awesome! :)

I think Verizon has a 32gb version as well. I think you have to order it online though if I'm not mistaken.

Never said it was not permitted. Lol, nice twist. I said in most cases,, NOT ALL,, you probably shouldn't be doing it. I have watched dozens and dozens of videos of people getting hurt doing just that.
