You should really see how dark the room is. I will post more some time soon and put a candle behind both cameras for more low light effect and maybe we can deduce this mystery.

I actually said the light source would be behind the camera. Seems any light anywhere may be to much light. Anyone have any dark matter?

Go into a dark room and shoot some pictures of something other than your light source.

Looking forward to seeing your results. Don't forget to set your Note 2 to low light setting, and no cheating.

How would I forget to set it to low light on the note 2? I set that on the last shot lol. Why would I cheat? What do I have to gain? I think the note to let's in more light so the less light the better for the 2. I also think it is a software issue [non issue]. I will take some night shots outside as well. I won't be able to avoid every street light but I will shoot non the less in several situations. I will also load them from my computer not truncated to allow all that detail. Should be a fun experiment. Maybe someone will smoke for me lol.

I just took these in a dim room. I tapped both to focus on the stool.

Note 3 on auto with image stabilization on.

Legendary Note 2 with low light setting.

The ratios on yer pics are seems the same. When both phones are on there highest settings the ratios are not the same. I will post up pics using the phones highest settings [ratios won't match.] I guess some people would only take pics like that, but probably 1 out of a thousand. I will post some more low light photos. Say a night club, outside at night and some others.

In a situation like that most people would use flash to *capture* more detail. Set yer notes on there highest settings and now use flash and show us what you get. Fun fun.

With all that said, what I find truly interesting is how the color from the note 3 is better than the note 2. It is a brown table, but the note 2 exposure seems to have picked up color from whatever red orange light source. The table looks red! It is brown. Somehow I think the note 3 is keeping it way more real as that note 3 pic is really showing its true colors.

I don't know if there was an update in the last firmware update I received... but I don't notice my Note 3 over processing low light photos anymore. All my photos are looking sharp now!

I took your Note 3 photo into Lightroom and raised the exposure by 1.75 stops, and this is the result (I didn't do anything else to it):

Notice the severe banding issue on the sofa. This is due to improper exposure level, where the darkest values are deemed by the algorithm as being so close and so dark that there's no need to interpolate them for a smoother transition. If you took that same shot but bump up the exposure compensation in the camera setting, it should get you a much better result.

I won't get my Note 3 till after the first week of November (since I'm getting it through ting.com), but once I do, I'll put the camera through its paces by shooting the very demanding Kitty Cat Diary entries (photo diary of my wife, as seen on my website's photography section: www.ethereality.info, which often contains photos shot in various low-light situations), and using the best camera apps available on the Android platform and compare the results to the stock Samsung camera app. I've shot the Kitty Cat Diary over the last 12 years with various professional, compact, and phone cameras, and the Note 3 will be replacing my iPhone 4, so it's going to have a significant presence.

I haven't messed with the exposure settings on the note 3 yet but I suppose you could extrapolate some great shots in the dark.

I actually am enjoying the camera on the Note 3. Gonna try some 4k video eventually. Saw some samples of it and it looks amazing.

i have had a Note2, HTC one, and GS4 and now a Note 3.

The note 3 is the worst camera for sure.
I really hope an update changes this. Taking pictures of my 2 year old son is next to impossible with the slow shutter and processing time.
