Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Sprint) automatically returns to the previous screen

Hello everyone,

A few months back I upgraded my Galaxy Note 3 (Sprint) to Lollipop from KitKat. The KitKat version I had, however, was rooted and I encountered some serious problems during the upgrade process. I believe the phone bricked. Like I said this was awhile ago and I was doing this late at night so my memory is fuzzy.
Anyway, I was able to get it restored to the unrooted firmware. I'm not sure if I had to flash an unrooted KitKat ROM and then upgrade to Lollipop or if I was able to go straight to unrooted Lollipop.
Since then, everything on the phone works fine except the phone will intermittently behave as if I am pressing the back button. It does this on its own until it closes the app I was in and reaches the home screen (until it can't go back any further). If I try to open an app while it is having one of these episodes, it closes the app. I usually had to restart the phone or wait it out.
I don't believe it is a hardware-failure issue because I used the "hidden" diagnostics menu feature that changes the color of the screen to indicate that the back button was being pressed and it only ever indicated when I pressed the back button myself.
Since I couldn't find anything online, I just switched back to my GS4 but it is running out of memory for apps and I miss my Note 3, so I'd like to switch again.
Anybody know what the heck is wrong???

Have you tried starting the Note 3 in Safe Mode? Might be some app causing the problem. Uhhh, you're running stock LP now, right? I don't know if Safe Mode will run if you're rooted.

I am playing with it in Safe Mode right now. So far it hasn't acted up. And yes it is stock LP.

Well, if it doesn't screw up in Safe mode, then the only way forward is to disable one app at a time, in normal mode, to determine which is causing the problem. Daunting task if you have a lot of apps!

Thank you for your reply and sorry I have not responded for awhile. The battery on my s4 is swollen so I've been forced to switch to the Note 3. I completely factory reset the note 3 and reinstalled apps and it is still acting funny. I'll continue to try to pinpoint an app. Do you think this issue could be caused by the failed rooting ordeal?
