Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SMS app - Which do you prefer?

Re: SMS

I used to be a go sms kinda girl but their recent update made it unable to customize like I wanted so I defaulted to textra.

Totally agree. Go SMS used to be may favorite app. The last upgrade, which tries to get in in Lollipop a little early I think, just sucks. Most of the customization that I loved is gone. I am deleting and looking for a replacement. Bummer.

Exactly. At first I thought it was not as compatible with the phone but then I saw reviews saying it took all customization away. I wonder if there is a way to download an apk for a previous version?

Being new to droid, I don't have any to base off. But I installed textra yesterday and love it.

Add me to Textra.. I honestly can't believe it's free. I would have easily paid $5 for it.

It's a beautiful, smooth and lightning fast app.

I won't use anything but it from here on out.

+1. I feel the same way and I normally hate paying for stuff lol

I am actually okay if it is worth it. ChompSMS used to have ads (not sure if it still does) -- But I paid the premium to get rid of them and also to support the dev for making such a good app.

Re: SMS app - Which do you prefer?

I've always used Handcent. When I got the N4 I thought I'd see what was out there and if I liked any of them more than HC. To my surprise, after trying hello, textra, evolve, etc; I wound up loving Verizon Messenger Plus! It has plenty of customization, great features, seems fast, wifi compatability....it just works.

my note 4 arrives tomorrow, cant wait! I've always been a fan of Textra - but on my note 3 the now I have Hangouts and love it, nice clean ui and haven't discovered any issues yet so I plan on using Hangouts :)

Of course, I don't mind supporting. I just come from an iphone where this is your text app and that's that...so I'm not used to paying for things that are there. On android it's a different game

Re: SMS app - Which do you prefer?

I'm looking for a really nice, slick clean professional app. (not particularily after one of the ones with heaps of colours and emojis and kind of kids feel about it).

also i want it to have 'block sms's from specific number' capability

also i dont want it to travel through any third party services/servers etc. I just want it to be a client side SMS app. (no whatsapp/free msging type stuff). I really don't want google or other services unnecessarily having complete access to all my private sms's :)

what's the best one for that? - any recommendations?

Re: SMS app - Which do you prefer?

I used Hangouts for awhile, but went back to the stock app on my S5 and now my N4. I get photos from iPhone users with no problem.

Textra no question the best. Love that they added scheduled text later option.

still using the stock app for text messages. The stock Samsung apps just seem to work better with this phone.

Re: SMS app - Which do you prefer?

I'm using Hangouts. This isn't my first Android phone ever but it's my first after spending 3 years on iOS. Hangouts is the most similar to how texting worked on iPhones with the ability to send via sms or hangouts like iMessage. The only thing that bothers me is how hard it is to switch between the two modes in hangouts.

Re: SMS app - Which do you prefer?

Textra lightweight, tons of features and I love the popup menu

Re: SMS app - Which do you prefer?

Another vote for chomp lots of options and not bloated like go sms
