Samsung Galaxy S20 looking GOOD

With the major camera improvements, the 4000 battery capacity, 12gb of RAM, 128 gb on board storage AND 120hz refresh rate display, seems like a solid pixel 3 xl replacement when I am ready to retire it.

I won't be buying new, stopped doing that a while back. Wait 4 to 5 months after release, and you can get a mint S20 for $600 or less.

The camera improvements look like its is going to close the gap with what set the pixel phones apart from the rest. That gone, not much left really (especially with no unlimited original backup on the pixel 4 and onwards).

I'd agree that the camera for the new S-series should be sufficiently caught up to the Pixels that (at least until the Pixel 5) few would feel like they're giving up much, if anything (need to wait for reviews, but, put simply, all flagships take amazing photos with the right person clicking the shutter).

That said, I'm more interested in seeing where the price on the S20+ lands in a few months; I'm not interested in the S20 due to its lack of broader band 5g support in comparison to the S20+ and S20 Ultra. I'm on T-Mobile, so that it itself doesn't have a large impact to me as I only need the lower band that it does cover, but I anticipate that the S20's 3rd party value in 1-2 years will fall off much more substantially as the availability of mid- and high-band 5g increases.

If you're waiting 6 months, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the S20 available new under promotion (not just monthly credits) for that $600 range, or in mint for even less.

Yep, I'm probably going to be trading in my pixel 3 for an S20. Maybe the camera isn't quite as good for still shots, but I'm betting it's going to be close. I'm looking for versatility, the wide angle and telephoto will give me way more options for pictures and I know it will do better video. Add in the big battery, great almost flat screen and 12GB of ram, I see no reason not to trade my pixel in.

I could wait for the 4a but, I really think the side hole punch looks stupid and after having a OnePlus 6T I'm fine with the center one. I don't trust Google to not screw up the Pixel 5 somehow so I'm done waiting for them to make better hardware.

Knowing the issues you had with your pixel 3, s20 is shaping to be a perfect fit for you.

I hate the way the s20 looks so if the note line looks like the s20 I'll be jumping on the pixel 5 most likely

Yeah I couldn't take the size and weight of the 6t anymore so I'm back on the pixel for now. I think part of my problem is trying to run a third party launcher with the new gestures simply because I'm being stubborn about the pixel launcher but it's been pretty good the last three days lol.

I want to love the pixel but I just can't ignore what the S20 offers, so much more versatility and power.

I agree...I think that Google has quite a lot of trust to regain after the Pixel 4. The S20 series, despite its high price, does stay true to the Galaxy name by scoring a solid 9/10 everywhere. It also seems that Samsung has decided to completely upgrade its entire camera system, so I’m pretty confident it will be able to perform better than the 11 Pro, P30 Pro and Pixel 4 in nearly all situations.

Sadly, I have to agree. There's too much Google broke in my 3XL. It's not that my sensors not functioning are a huge loss, more an irritant. I mean, gestures should work in a 1 yr old phone. Auto rotate should work. Flip to shh should work. Panorama camera should work. Wrist twist to engage selfie cam should work. Compass should work. Ring volume shouldn't automatically decrease to near inaudible all the time. That's most of the issues I continue to have that several monthly and 1 system update has yet to fix. Why would you provide a system update that breaks a lot of folks phones, then not fix it with an update? Completely unacceptable for a $1k phone. Too bad because it works OK for a 50/50 work/personal use device. Not ideal, but OK - the ringer issue is huge. If I decide to put up with everything that doesn't work, it will be because the primary functionality does work. And I'll continue to be very disappointed in my phone and will never buy another Google phone.

Coming on the heels of the glass/not glass screen on the Flip, I'm waiting on real world performance reviews with a healthy amount of skepticism as fully earned by Samsung... (hoping the phone is a rock star, though).

Yeah I was going to preorder but now I think I'm with you I'm going to wait a few weeks and see how the real world reviews are. It's not like they are giving me a ton for my pixel anyway.

I don't know, not a Samsung guy myself. I chose not to go after the 4XL. I didn't see a reason to upgrade. Not sure about the 5 yet either.
But the Motorola Edge + does have my attention. I could be making the switch back to Moto.

Only problem I see with that is Google owns Motorola, so you could end up with the same issues on the Moto. My current list of issues includes: Sensors not working: No auto-rotate, no Flip to shh, no Panorama camera, no Wrist twist to engage, No Compass, no gyroscope, no lift to wake, Ring volume randomly automatically decreases to near inaudible. Many of these issues have google support threads I'm following which google refuses to listen to or acknowledge. These issues are affecting Pixel 3 and now Pixel 4 phones.

I have none of these issues with the 3XL and Motorola is owned by Lenovo.

After going back to my 6T the last few days again I'm kind of leaning towards just upgrading to a 7T and calling it a day. Only thing that concerns me with the 7T is the camera but I have the same concerns with the S20 and Samsung's heavy handed processing and smoothing. I may just have to get a 4a for the camera. Either way I'm done with my pixel 3, I got less than 3 hours of screen time over 12 hours last weekend with good signal and the batter saver on the whole time from when I unplugged it with 100%.

Pixel 3 is tiny and pixel 4 seems even worse. I always gravitate towards the Android phone with the best camera. I had Note 10+ for few months. For point and shoot, Pixel 3 xl was better. I have 6T and I can tell you, it is not a match to Pixel 3 xl or Note 10+. So from camera perspective, OnePlus is just not there yet (not bad, just not there yet). While I don't have an S20. I think it's camera will probably beat the Pixel 3 xl and will for sure be better than 7T. If camera is not your top priority, 7T is an excellent choice. The other thing that kills it for me is no AOD on OnePlus phones. Can't live without that any longer. No way.
