Samsung Galaxy S3 BLACK screen/not working?! Sound working ok....

So after a power down, it will still not power up normal to use this :
Make sure your device is turned off.
Press and hold the Power key to boot up your Samsung Galaxy S3 Gt-i9300.
After the start-up animation begins to display, press and hold the Volume down key. Keep pressing it down.
When the lock screen is displayed Safe mode is displayed in the lower-left corner of the screen.

ok.. here is what happens:

when i try to start up by holding down the power button down. i keep holding it down, but it does not go longer until the GT-i9300-logo and after that, it reboots on its own.

if i choose to release the power button after the GT-i9300 logo appears and start holding down the volume down-button, my phone does a simple vibration and then it disappears into the blackscreen. and when i now press either home or power-button ONCE, it blinks the screen for 0.1 seconds. i can still hear/receive the notifications and all, and i can quickly see the screen (time, background etc) for that 0.1 second before it is gone again.

i guess there are just 2 more ways: to use Odin program to manually install the firmware - but i do not know which region my GT-i9300 is from this list: Firmware archive | Samsung Updates - so yeah, which one do i choose...?

if this does not work, i just have to wipe the entire phone (factory reset) as a last effort....

Carrier.. does that depend on the digitizer, or? If not, I suppose it is Telenor.. But the Sim-card I am using normally is from MyCall (mycall.no)..

The three-letter code under region in your link corresponds to geographic area and carrier. I linked the 4.3 version, s3, Telenor.

Well yeah... it must be Telenor considering that my phone was bought in Norway... and wow that is one VERY big file! :O

what do i do afterwards once the file is downloaded? do i use the Odin-way to upload the new firmware, hmm? and that will not remove my saved photos and files, right..?

I cannot say if it will remove files and folders. I have to assume that you will lose the data.

I never made the connection until now, but it must be that I grew up in Stoughton, WI. Largest Syttende Mai celebration outside Norway! (wasn't born there/not Norwegian) Just have an affinity for Norskies now, so happy to help!

alrighty. i still got about 10 hours until the download is finished so i will post an update tomorrow to see how this goes then. also, is there ANY other way for me to get the files from my phone to my pc other than through usb cable..?

I don't know if that's what the "Update from external storage" is.... like if you used an SD card to load it in.

ok so i finally managed to access my phone by connecting the cable from my phone to usb on my pc. i have managed to store everything EXCEPT sms and contacts.. i am trying with kies but it won't allow me to access my phone because i need to lock it up on my phone, and since i cannot display my screen, that will be difficult..... =/

either way, i think the only thing left to do now is to factory reset the phone by uploading the new firmware using Odin program, yes?

any other suggestions before i wipe the entire shiet?

You can just try a Factory Reset from the recovery screen, you don't have to upload the firmware to do a reset. You can still try the firmware upload after the reset, if that doesn't fix the issue.

so. that's it then. im just officially sadened up and all frustrated now.. even with your amazing help and advising, it is still all CRAP! i made a video:

- and as you can see, NOTHING is working...... the screen is being complete FAIL! over and over again.

so basically i have invested A LOT of time and friggin £100 and not gotten ANYTHING! instead i just get...this.

so. what i did was to first upload the firmware and it did its job, but when the samsung-animation disappeared, the screen goes black again. and as you can see, i tried to hit the power-button, but the screen only flashes, as you can see.

i then tried to wipe/factory reset through the recovery menu, but THAT didn't work either...

SOOO im basically screwed up now. "Yaaaay"..... just what i needed in my life now.. So, what else can i do now? buy a new digitizer, huh?

still, much appreciated for all of your assistance and help, man. cannot thank you enough, really. but yeah, if you got any other suggestions now, i welcome them.

Since we(you) are to this point and there isn't a whole lot to lose: How about opening it up and double-checking the connections inside? It really is as simple as taking out the screws on the back (3:19 in your video) and then a few more under each layer. Just take pics at every step so you can re-assemble.
I fixed a friends screen, put it back together, and... nothing. No power up, just nothing. I went back a few steps in the assembly(dis-assembly), unplugged connectors(screen, antenna, motherboard) and re-plugged them in, re-assembled, and boom, it worked.

yeap, i have done that too. same result. it really sucks. i will try it once more to see how it goes. if that doesn't work, i will just give it up or something.

You got the screen off of eBay, right? Will the seller warranty it? Will eBay warranty it? It's always cheaper to fix, than buy new....

Then again, you may just want to go with a new phone, in case the issue is more than screen related. Fortunately you were able to recover your files and pics!

hey guy's whats up? Im from malaysia, so heres the thing, ive got an s3 of my own, i got my phone like 3 months back, i was going for a jog in the park when my s3 fell from my pocket, and the next thing i saw was a lil crack to my screen, everything works fine, blue indicator, led's at the bottom as well as sound. My phone has got no warranty.. my phone fell on the bottom right, and gave my front panel a crack including my digitizer, any suggestion's on what i could do next? Thanks for any help in advance. oh and uhh, i cant see noting on ma phone, its completely blank, nothing at all, no touch sensitivity too.. :/
