Samsung Galaxy S3 charging issue

I may have the same problem. I bought one years worth of minutes online and they were added to my S2 phone whos service date was aproaching. They also told me I must upgrade to an S3 phone which I did. The first instruction says charge the battery for 5 hours. I charged it more than 5 hours. I did not turn it on yet. I called TracFone to activate the new phone and transfer the time left in my old phone to the new. I then unplugged the charger and called TracFone and finally got a technition and the phone would not unlock or start, turn on. After a long conversation they stated they would send me a new phone. After the call I plugged the charger back in and the phone appeared to be half charged. I then tried turning it on while plugged into the charger and the phone came on??????? I went no farther , unplugged the charger and the phone turned off. I will wait for the new phone.

you can charge in safe mode by starting with right button and when your opening page appears, holding the volume such that it is lowering, which gets you into safe mode

another method is plugging it in to charge and pressing the start button until it buzzes

i believe the condition comes about after charging too long; I only ever let it charge overnight; then once, I left in on charge for about 20 or so hrs.

so unless there is a reset for auto charge on function, you have to press the on button until it buzzes, once it is already on the charger.
