Samsung Galaxy S3 frozen on start screen... HELP PLEASE!

Re: Samsung galaxy S3 frozen on start screen... HELP PLEASE!

Hi,

When we were trying to download to the phone. I'm not sure about firmware, I had the phone new in May 2012.

Nothing notable occurred, I had been using it, left it on my desk, when I looked at it about half hour later the screen had frozen on the start screen. I hadn't even switched it off.

You don't remember a major update in the last couple of months?

Which country/region are you in? I didn't look through every download link, but the only Orange that I stumbled across was for Romania. I don't want to steer you to the incorrect firmware.

BTW, it sounds like the Samsung Repair Centre is feeding you some B/S - if the phone has custom software on it, your provider (either Orange or the shop you purchased it at) was the one that loaded it. Have you taken it to the shop where you got it?

Which version of the Kies software are you using - v2.6 or v3?

Hey if you have not resolved the problem yet, I have had the same problem for the past 3 hours and luckily found out how to handle the problem.

1: Hold down your Up Volume start up menu. (Volume up, Power, And Home) Release power after vibrate
2. Clear your Cache, then do a complete wipe of your system using the reboot. Select NO if you want to keep your pictures becuase I know you are trying to.
3: power off the phone however you want, then reboot again using the Volume Down, Home, And Power button. This will take you to manaul ODIN.
4: Run Odin, and this might take awhile. If it never finishes do a battery pull.
If your system hasnt booted up by this point with odin! Remain calm. Unplug your phone, and wait until you get a *BATTERY LOW* after your system warns you that your battery is low it will shock your system, and walaaa you will be at the intro to your freshly restored S3.

just got my new Samsung tab 3 turned it on updated the software, the screen went grey now its is stuck on the Samsung logo start screen just flashing blue cant even switch it off

just got my new Samsung tab 3
Since it's new, take it back and make them exchange it for a new one and have THEM do the update before you accept it - this is an all too common problem and you shouldn't have to go through the hassle of fixing it yourself.

I got the same issue as maddiii1991, but my phone is flashed with a custom ROM and Kernel (can't remember which) . It has been running with this ROM for about 1,5 years. The last couple of months it has been buggy, but not a big issue. I've tried to flash a new firmware with Odin but it fails to do so. International I9300.
I have given up trying to recover any data, so I just want the phone to work again. Is there anything else I can try to do myself?

Have you checked the download (re-downloaded the file; compared the md5 to what's posted)?

I haven't compared the files. I chose "check your firmware" on sammobile.com, selected Model: GT-I9300 Galaxy S III, Product code: Norway (Telenor) - TEN. And downloaded the suggested file (I9300XXUGNA5_I9300TENGNB1_I9300XXUGNA8_HOME.tar.md5). I will re-download it, and try again.

The only reason I asked is that the binary size (in the lower left of your screenshot) looked bigger than I expected. But to be honest I haven't paid attention to that.

Edit: heh heh - guess the reason that I don't pay attention to that is because it's not shown in Odin v3.07 - it's only in v3.09. Anyway, I loaded an older file for my Verizon S3 (SCH-I535) and the binary size was 1220.1 MB. Not far off, I'll admit, but enough to be careful.

Ah ok :) Should the binary size be less than 1200MB?
I'm downloading a different firmware now.
Do you think this will work:
----------------
Model: GT-I9300
Model name: GALAXY S III
Country: Nordic countries
Version: Android 4.3
Changelist: 2429075
Build date: Thu, 16 Jan 2014 14:53:58 +0000
Product Code: NEE
PDA: I9300XXUGNA5
CSC: I9300NEEGNB1
MODEM: I9300XXUGNA8
-----------------
My phone has never been locked to any mobile network operator.

That error in Odin occurs when it's parsing the file that you downloaded? Or after you click the Start button to start the write?

Well, not much you can do about that except try a JTAG service (ex. http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/)

Edit: there is a way to try to write just the pit partition (using Odin) but I don't know enough about that to get you started, other than to suggest that you try over on XDA (or Google it - I don't know if the pit file is specific to a carrier or the chipset or memory size, so I'm not sure where you'd get it).

OK. Thanks for the help. Very much appreciated. I will read some more on the XDA forum. If I can't find any reasonably priced solution I will probably buy the new S5.

Re: Samsung galaxy S3 frozen on start screen... HELP PLEASE!

Thanks, Scott, for the suggestion to remove the data card. You just saved my phone, and me from having to reload umpteen programs after a factory reset. Phew! Now to back everything up....I just moved a bunch of apps to the SD card a couple of days ago, and I've also loaded a few games and gone through many levels on them. I either or both of those factors, combined without an accidental shutdown and restart of my phone may have caused the problem. I dunno.
