Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 freezes every hour or so.

After freezing again for a few days, it finally completely stopped working (couldn't pass the Samsung logo start screen). I returned it to the Samsung repair center and it was sent back to me fully working in less than a week (amazing work from the repair service!). I believe they have changed the motherboard. New version is I9300BUELL1. Note sure if is relevant or not, but isnce it is mentioned several times, my phone was 7-month old when start freezing!

I9300XXEMB1 really solved my problems with Galaxy S3. i've downloaded it from here ---> Link
and followed this tutorial how to do it Link.
24 hours and no freezes . Thanks !!!!

hello,
i have been reading this thread but not sure how to go about it. follow your download link but not sure which firmware to get because i am not sure how to get the country code for my s3.

i type *#1234# and i got the following
ap --> I9300XXELLA
cp --> I9300XXEMA2
CSC -> I9300OJVEMA1

so, do i still get I9300XXEMB1 from your post? if the info i provided about does not show the country code (pcode or csc), how do i get it?

please feel free to reply here and cc: [email redacted by Mod]

*** update apr 3, 2013 ***
i have been looking around and found this site samfirmware.com and i was able to find the country code when i connect my s3 to skies on my mac.

-- info from skies
Firmware information
this is the lastet firmware
. current firmware version: PDA:MA2 / PHONE: LLA / CSC:MA1 (AFR)
. latest firmware version: PDA:MA2 / PHONE:LLA / CSC:MA1 (AFR)

-- firmware from samfirmware.com

Country/Carrier Date Version PDA CSC Kies
Kenya 2013 January 4.1.2 I9300XXEMA2 I9300OJVEMA1
Kenya 2013 January 4.1.2 I9300XXELLB I9300OJVELL3
Kenya 2012 June 4.0.4 I9300XXBLFB I9300OJVBLF3
Kenya 2012 June 4.0.4 I9300XXALF2 I9300OJVALF1

my question....
1. given my PDA & CSC are the latest version, is it safe to go back to PDA: I9300XXELLB CSC: I9300OJVELL3

** update apr 3, 2013
i just called samsung in United State. They were not able to pull up my IMEI because it's an international phone, thus i was told they can not support non-USA phones. based upon the info i got from kies when i connected my phone via USB (country code = AFR, kenya). am i supposed to call kenya, africa for support??

now this is really bogus.

Had a similar problem, my s3 would freeze intermitently,
It is actually a problem with the first batch of these phones.
Something to do with the eMMC block memory. These problems
would occur and come out after 6 months of usage.
Just went to samsung and they replaced the motherboard.
no more freezes.

Believe me, It is not a software issue. Its a hardware one.
Have yours replaced while you have your warranties.

The freezes are caused by the sudden death fix. On that kind of freezes the phone unfreeze itself after 5-25 minutes.
The phone freezes when writing data to an affected eMMC block.
An eMMC block is affected, when it's internal block pararameters (as f.e. write count for that block) are in such a state,
that these parameters trigger a corrupted block without SD-fix (4.1.1) or trigger a freeze with SD-fix (4.1.2).

When a phone is hitting an affected block with a writiing operation is completely unpredictable.
So these freezes can occur on almost each situation on the smartphone when it writes data.

But you have indeed a higher chance to trigger a freeze when writing much data.

check if you have the hardware problem with this program:

What is the trick? the lag fixer? I have noticed that everytime my wifi on the phone switches on, a couple of minutes later my phone freezes..

Hello

i am in India and using Samsung Galaxy S3 on Vodafone network. since last few days i am also facing freezing issues and tried steps almost everything.

Did factory reset. - still freezing
Already had I9300XXELLC (4.1.2) which was updated through OTA but still i flashed and installed again following the instruction. - still freezing
Removed all the applications. - still freezing
formatted the SD Card - still freezing

Should i try installing the last I9300XXDLK1 (4.1.1) now? will that help?

Anything else that we can try?

Please help.....

had the same problems as most people on here, a few things that I have done that has made my phone faster and for the past 24 hours not crashed once.

1. Back up then factory reset the phone.
2. Wiped the apps I don't use - had nearly 200 apps now stripped down to 75 (Amazing how many apps I downloaded and never used but they clogged up my space and ram usage).
3. Formatted the SDCard - :( It did mean had to reload all my music but the phone seemed to have a problem accessing the data.
4. Updated to the latest firmware 19300XXEMB1 using PC and Kies.

As said above not a single crash and the phone is much faster like when I first got it.

Paul

Edit: 24/02/13 - Not one crash since the update :)

Yep, my phone became laggy and started to freeze since now and then after updating WhatsApp!!!

I started having these problems about 10 days/ 2weeks ago and they've just been getting worse. My phone either freezes on the currect screen or when the screen's locked. It also seems to restart itself every now and then - I presume when the software realises it's got tied in a knot and reboots itself.

Now a few people have mentioned WhatsApp and I remembered I had installed the new update a few weeks ago, so I was just wondering if anyone else who's having this problem also had WhatsApp installed?

Unfortunately though I also bout my Blue S3 last May and so if it is a hardware fault it could well be one of the bad batch.

Anyone discovered any surefire means of solving the problem?

i had my S3 !9300 since it came to market and it worked fine for me ...... but when i updated to Android 4.1.2 it came after some weeks the freezing problem :/
any way it not hardware problem ... it all about compatable with Android ... i red one solution and it work great for me and since cuples od days my phone work again great even under great pressure .... many hours of gaming and chating ... watsapp and other ....
1. turn of google play notification about updates (i think this do nothing but i did it anyway) :P
2. in developer option ... (setting) go to limite background process ... it was standard limit .. i make it 2 process only) ... cuz i bielive samsung didn't work that fine with multi task specially with Android 4.1.2
3. and this important .... turn off multiwindow option since it acutlly useless ... at less for me ...

now you can try to sort these and figer out trully what did the freez ....
if you know exactly let me know ....
good luck guys :)
and thanks for the one who gave this solution cuz it work great ...
p.s i did once restor factory .. and delete all my data and app ... but didnt help

Dont you love it when you make a post which clearly states the exact caue of the problem and its just ignored?

my s3 still freezes and i really dread this is a hardware issue because i bought this international phone online and the US samsung support told me they do not support non-US phones, seriously??

in addition to the freezing issues, incoming calls sometime do not ring even it's not on silent mode. this is so frigging frustrating.

@mido kortaiz, at this point, i am willing to try anything. i have implemented your suggestion, let's see how long the phone behaves normally before the next freeze. it's currently apr 13 3:10pm san francisco time

Dear All,

I beleive I've found a combination of actionas that helped me alot and so far I have ZERO freeze or reboots since I've applied it.

1-Make sure you set your camera to save photos to the SD card not to the internal one.
2-Delete some photos from the gallery
3- Go to settings , developer options, turn off the window animation and transition animation
4-go to the dialpad and type *#0011# , You will enter a special mode, then touch the menu button, a small menu will appear, chose WIFI, then turn off the Power saving mode. (please note that this step need to be repeated incase you turned off your phone for any reason)

I wish you all good luck, please share with me the outcome.

hello, i tried it but it did not solve my problems.

I had the same problem, i have a i9300 from iusacell and I read in other post that putting the Rom I9300XXEMB1 solves the problem. I had it flashed in the morning and i have all day working with the phone without any issue.

i am running I9300XXXEMA2 and the country code is AFR. according to sammobile.com, this is the latest firmware for my phone. can i flash to I9300XXEMB1 regarding of my country code? meaning can anyone flash to this ROM? is this a custom ROM? where can i find this ROM?

how many people out there have tried this ROM I9300XXEMB1 and it solves the freezing problem????

i read somewhere that official EMC2 has resolved the freezing issue ... anyone tried this ?

would you elaborate about this EMC2 and how to go about applying this?

I can confirm that this fixed my constant freezing

ok, i just rooted and run fstrim. let's see how long the phone goes before another freeze.

btw, do you have any more freezes since your post on feb 15 @7:30pm?

I think fstrim also fixed it for me, it was the last thing I had done and no freezing / lock ups since! Hurrah!

hello, i was wondering if you still have freezes/lock up since you ran fstrim on feb 16??

I have a stock unbranded phone. I have updated it to the EMC2 firmware and I can confirm the phone is freeze free for 6 days.

can anyone upgrade to EMC2 regardless of country code? the current firmware for my country (AFR) code is I9300XXEMA2 which is what i have right now, does it mean i have to wait for the new firmware before i can upgrade? i also wonder if i could upgrade to a custom ROM, if so where can i download the latest custom ROM.

got my phone back from the service center today and checked my baseband version and its I9300DDEMB1 .... not able to find anything about this version .... i have installed all the apps ... will share the feedback ...

checked for updates available and it says no updates available.... any idea about this baseband ?

fyi - i am from India

I was having the same problem, it restarted itself or it freeze randomly, it was freezing every hour or so
I read a lot of possible causes so I started for the easier thing: free space in the phone memory
it didn't work :(
so I continue uninstalling a lot of apps that I didn't use anymore
it didn't work :(
I uninstall whatsapp and voila! up time: 34:22 and counting :D (that's how long is been since I uninstall whatsapp)

I already install other apps and updates and it is still running ok

for cross-platform messaging I'm using Tango, Line and FB msgr :)

i just flashed my S3 to CM10.1 20130417 mod and i have not had any freeze or reboot issue anymore.

anyone wants to do this can get the ROM from below (** your phone need to be rooted first)
- CyanogenMod Downloads

I also read this on some other forum and someone else also stated that whatsapp was causing this issue... Can anyone else try this?

As I posted in the other similar thread;

I did absolutely nothing to the phone and the freezing issue has now disappeared for more than 24 hours now (knock on wood).

The other night it froze ? but I didn?t turn it off ? just let it be and plugged it in to charge. And voila ? the next day it was performing as if nothing happened.

To those thinking of sending it back ? I?d recommend waiting a bit and seeing if it sorts itself out.
Yes, sometimes it does sort itself out but mostly it does not ..... I keep getting messages like "Process has stopped" or "Contacts has stopped", do you ?
