Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery Life

First day of full use on second GS4.First had random reboot issues. Moderately pleased. Heavy texting, YouTube use, Web browsing, and play store rummaging were the main uses of the phone today. Downloaded snapdragon on my 1st phone night before I snapped and decided to bring it back. Installed snapdragon again last night and will post again in 3 days. Hope there's improvement. Overall lightyears better than my iPhone, but has massive room for improvement.

How are you all not having the maps app take up 25%of your battery?

Well here is mine currently. I'm at 2.5 hours of screen time.

Not sure why your maps takes up so much

I use maps and nav every day, and have location services on, along with everything else.
And my maps was only at 8 percent

I use my phone all the time, texts, vibration on, Youtube, Whatsapp, Wifi as well, AND I play CPU intensive games like Sonic the Hedgehog, and my battery goes about 2.5 days. I charge it at about 15-20%, so I could probably get the extra half day if it went right to zero. I'm not used to this kind of battery, especially after coming off a Torch 9800 (Codename: BS, or "Battery Sucker").

2.5 days with everything turned on stock battery I find this a little far fetched I will need some proof

How is this possible?! I usually get between 2 and a half to 3 hours on screen time and im already below 10%. I have all the useless stuff disabled plus all the air view and air gestures and I'm still not getting battery life close this. What are your settings?

This is a normal day for me since I started using SnapDragon Battery Guru. Haven't seen less then 6 hours screen time in about a week. Over 3 hours so far at the 50% mark means another 6 hour + day for my GS4. Still dont understand why everyone doesn't use this app but I'm sure that it wont be long before most are using it. Just remember that the same people that make our GS4 processor wrote this app:)

What kind of battery life were you getting before using SnapDragon Guru? i still have about 20 hours in the learning mode and then I'll be able to use it!

If I see a battery the exact size and weight of the OEM but claiming to be 30% bigger, my first question is how?
Same way that a computer that was once the size of your house was only 1/100th as powerful as the phone you are surfing the Internet with right now.

Battery technology is a wide ranging field. OEM doesn't always use the best product available.....

So I haven't really had any complaints with battery life do far (this had probably been about the best I've personally had on a phone), but after browsing this thread, I do have a question. Anybody have any idea why Android System wound be using a pretty huge chunk of my battery? I hadn't really paid much attention until seeing some screen shots here but if I don't have my screen on much, it actually use more battery than the screen. If it's on a good bit, they're almost even. I think last cycle it was 32% screen and 46% android System. Seems rather high to me. Thoughts?

It depends..."Android System" is a generic process that could show as the result of various processes. If, for example, you haven't used your device a whole lot during a period of time (i.e. haven't had the screen on that much), it's quite normal for "Android System" to be high on the list (same with "Google Services" and/or "Android OS"). If your battery drain appears to be *normal* over that period of time, then it's probably nothing to worry about. If, however, your battery is draining faster than you feel it should, then that is when you may want to try to dig deeper and find out what specific process/app is running.

I just want to add that battery life on this device is amazing. Even with Battery Guru installed, I never got anywhere close to this on my GS3...

The battery life in this phone is so much better than I was getting on my Bionic even though I had an extended battery on the Bionic that was slightly larger than this one. I usually have about 25% battery left at the end of my ~17 hour day with about 2 hours of screen time being on. Also, I run for about 40 minutes in the morning with the GPS on for Runkeeper while streaming Mike & Mike on TuneIn radio. Other than that, I keep GPS off and have Wifi at both home and work that I connect to. I've also disabled all of the Samsung bloat features except for Smart Stay. I use automatic brightness and Standard screen mode. I keep location sharing off.

I'm an iPhone convert as well. Charged my S4 to 100% before going to bed and
thought I had turned off the phone. Instead I must have only shut down the
screen. When I woke up, I had 75% battery left. My iPhone would have 99% battery
left doing the same thing. Obviously there is a lot of background syncing or other
activity going on that I don't know enough about yet to shut off.

Suggestions or a source for improving battery life? I just installed the snap dragon
guru app.

Thanks.

Mine also losses about 20-30 percent while I sleep. Even with the Battery Guru app installed. Not sure what's going on...

So some people use the phone for 5 hours on screen time and have 30% battery left and others use it 2 hours and have 10% left. Love it. Would be nice if we could figure this out.

There are a lot of factors that can affect what uses power...here are some quick things to consider:

- Are you connected to wifi or mobile data? If the latter, does it have a strong signal? It's a known fact that wifi connection (when connected) uses less power, also having a weak signal in general will cause higher battery drain.
- What apps do you have syncing? One huge culprit is Verizon's "Backup Assistant". If you have that enabled, I suggest turning it off -- Google already provides full syncing of everything that app offers, so it's really redundant anyway. Another one is Google Now -- A really neat feature I think, but I've noticed it chews through my battery when I have it on...and since I don't really use it too often, I just leave it turned off. Or...it could be a POP email account that syncs frequently...? There are many things that can affect standby battery life...the key is to pinpoint the ones you may have running that you don't need.

With the S4, I only lose about 5-10% while sleeping on average...of course I also rooted mine and froze a lot of pre-installed bloatware as well...but nothing I disabled should cause that high a discrepancy.
