Samsung Galaxy S5 SCL23

Hi there, I recently purchased a SCL23 (which I believe is the Japanese version of the Galaxy S5. I was previously running 4.4.2, and today have 'upgraded' to the 5.0 Lollipop (manual update using Odin). Since doing that, the device no longer recognises my SIM card, and keeps asking me to insert a SIM, despite the fact there is obviously one in there. I am worried that it may be 'bricked' so any advice whatsoever would be hugely appreciated.

You most likely flashed the incorrect version of your firmware for your device.

What 5.0 firmware did you try to flash? You will need to find the 5.0 for that specific device. Go to Sammobile.com and locate the last official firmware for your device and flash that using ODIN. If there is no 5.0 firmware listed, then don't try flashing something else or you will brick your phone.

Appreciate your reply. I flashed with KDI-SCL23KDU1COE7. I was under the impression that this was the correct version. I could be wrong however?

The SCL23, a.k.a. G900J, is a carrier branded minority variant, specifically for the Japanese au KDDI network.

The phone, if bought as used, via the web, may have been modified to work on other, non au KDDI, networks. Flashing a stock firmware may have undone whatever mods may, or may not, have been done.

Thanks for the reply. That's what im thinking. That by flashing the stock firmware I may have inadvertedly removed a mod which allows the phone to be used in Australia on our network (as opposed to Japan). Do you have any advice as to what I can do to get it up and running? I'm assuming here that downdating to 4.4.2 won't solve anything. Arghhhh

Reflashing the earlier stock firmware probably won't make any difference as it will not include any mod's, (if any), that you may have had before. The SCL23 should be compatible with Telus, Optus and Vodafone in Australia. I'm sorry but I am not au fait with the firmware, rooting and modding of the SCL23.

According to this Australian thread on whirlpool.net.au, flashing the stock Android 5.0 update for the carrier au KDDI, mentioned above, re-introduces the service provider lock on the phone...

Hi, hope you figured it out by now, but I had the same problem. You gave to enter service mode by going to the phone keypad and entering *#9090# _ after typing this just wait for service mode to come up. You will now need to touch the settings tab at the top right, tap key input and enter Q then press OK. (I believe Q has to be capital but I'm not sure) now go back to settings and key input and enter 0000 - now wait for the menu to come up and follow these settings

UE SETTING & INFO MENU → SETTING → PROTOCOL → GCF
GSM / GPRS / WCDMA ON
AS → FREQUENCY LOCK → RESET
