Samsung Galaxy S6 vs HTC One M9: Turning the Tables

I love HTC as shown in my past posts. it hurt(a little) but had to walk. i wanted a bigger phone and the lack of m9+ forced my hand right to the note 4. i'm a happy camper.

I thought about a bigger phone but that crappy back firing speaker on the Note 4 would get on my nerves. I am still considering the Nexus 6 though because it's speakers are front firing and comparable to HTC.

Do you own one or have used one?

Some how I doubt it.

I have the M8 which is pretty much the same with sense 7 port, I have read ALL the reviews possible about the M9 and yes the conclusion is that if you have an M8, the M9 is a no go, don't need a PHD to understand that

Do you really think at this point that you have to personally own one to know that it failed? With all of the reviews and now user reviews.....come on.

I'll say this much. You are going to have a much more difficult transition than you think going to half the battery life when you go from the Z3 to the S6. Tethering it to chargers and backpacks withstanding.

Oh I know the S6 battery will be worst than my Z3. I don't doubt that at all, but I'm willing to give that up for the other features which are more appealing to me

Its a smartphone. Really? I don't buy my phones based on how they feel. Now cars are a different thing. His point is that if you had an M8 and got the M9 that was practically a waste of money. I think going from the M7 to M8 was a huge leap. Going from the M8 to M9 is a step backwards. I have money to burn but I'm not going to waste it on an M9 that looks just like an M8. I don't want anyone to ask me why I have three phones that all look the same. Screw that...

Well in terms of battery
- Wireless Charging
- Very fast Charging

The Z3 battery charging is so slow, even slower than the S5

It's funny nobody countered your battery charging time post. Outside of Apple fans, who wants to plug their phone in for 106 minutes (1hr 46 mins) to get a full charge with an M9. That was annoying with the M8 until I got my Motorola quick charger. HTC didn't release one for another 2-3 months. Yet, HTC threw in an even bigger battery so M9 owners have to sit and wait for a full charge. I'll say it again, Samsung probably went for a smaller battery for this very reason.

Since I updated LP on my M8 my battery is 50% worst, using the wifi and screen on yesterday night, battery dropped 10% in a couple of minutes!!
So I think LP is the culprit of all bad batteries on S6 and M9 not the hardware

My issue with Samsung is never the phone out the gate, though I am concerned about the S6 battery. It is over time. We will have to see how many features you will have to turn off to manage battery life and also how it performs a year from now. Say what you want about HTC but you can keep all the radios and location services on and the phones battery and performance will age well. Same for Sony. You can't really enjoy the features if you have to micro manage the phone.

Thats one thing I hate about Samsung phones personally too. With my Z3 I never had to turn off anything except to disable a few apps. Even with my S5, I had to turn off a bunch of stuff. I feel like I will have to do the same with the S6 as well. Kind of annoying but ehh, hopefully it wont be as bad as the S5.

Did you update your service pack from the play store as well? That seemed to help a lot for me.

First off, nobody walks around with all their radios on. Secondly, the amount of power the the radios use is minimal. However, if your GPS is being used by an app actively or your radio is sending/receiving data your battery will definitely take a hit.

If you walk around with all your radios on and go into a building with very thick walls your phone is going to hang itself trying to locate itself or find a data connection. Best reason not to leave your radios on. Heck, same applies to traveling on the subway. People phones go nuts when going underground.

I know the WiFi radio can go to sleep when not in use. Definitely leave it on if you have it setup to go to sleep.

Just get the rapid charger from HTC. Issue solved.
Wireless charging is nice to have though.

I believe that it's really important to get a good feeling when holding a smartphone. The M9 feels different than the M8. It's easier to hold and actually it makes you want to keep it on you all the time. The M8 also made feel like that but the M9 does it even more.

My point is this basically. You ordered a phone online like most of us do. If you got the device and it didn't have a great "feel" to it, I highly doubt anybody would return it. Especially since you ordered/purchased the phone without ever holding the device or touching it first.

I have a smartwatch so I leave my Bluetooth on. I also have GPS, wifi and data on and my phone battery is fine. Please don't tell me to turn my smartphone into a dumb phone because the battery life sucks on Samsung phones. I've been following the S6 threads and that's all I hear.
